Can a zombie take a 5' step in the same round it attacks?

Their movement is not restricted... their actions are.

Sure they can.

A 5-foot step is listed as 'No Action' in the PHB.

Which means you can take one, as long as you haven't moved in a round.

... and as long as your movement is not restricted or downgraded to i.e. half move, in which case you cannot take a 5-foot-step (see glossary), but as mentioned by Thanee, zombie's actions not movement are restricted.
