Zombies.

Good question, but she's not enough of a gamer to really even know the answer to this. I suspect modern might be easier for her, but she'd have fun with whatever.
Some people despise guns in their RP. I don't get it, but it's true.
I suspect that there are similar reactions to cars, Kevlar vests, armored vehicles, and other modern devices. And I'll bet the opposite is true (hatred of medieval technology) too.

Gamers with such issues will hate settings that include the things they hate. But, until you play those things, you'll never know.

Best of luck.

You know, I've got an idea for a really great module!

1) What's the source of the zombies? Can you really find that many dead folks?
An evil, intelligent zombie necromancer that lives in an enormous zombie golem!

2) What are the resources the PCs have? Can you stretch those out somehow?
Plants! In order to get more plants, you need sunlight! In order to get sunlight, you have to grow certain types of plants!

3) Where are the PCs?
At home!

4) Do the PCs need to just hole up and fend off hordes, or can you force them to sneak out and save survivors?
They just need to survive!

5) What are the overall effects on the Setting? Longterm?
If the PCs survive and beat the BBEG, the zombies decide to become entertainers instead!

6) What kind of zombies are these?
All kinds, including zombie ogres and zombie yetis!
