The Fantasy Trip and Choose Cthulhu getting new releases plus Munchkin Shadowrun and Age of Sigmar
Quickstart rules are a great way for a group to dip their toes into a new system without spending tens of dollars or wrapping their heads around 300+ pages of new esoterica. With the hobby currently expanding, I thought I would take a look at some of these Quick Start rules and highlight a few of my favorites.
D&D gets a special cover setting along with a DMless card driven adventure. Pathfinder 2nd Edition gets a new class. GURPS 4E and The Fantasy Trip get a setting and monsters and two small adventures respectively. G.I. JOE RPG arrives with two adventures and yes you do make your own Joe. Finally, Hunter the Reckoning is back in what looks to be a fifth edition, there is a new fantasy RPG, and...
This week I look at RPG and RPG-related crowdfunding projects that run from December 5th through the 13th. Many of these are quickstarters that run two weeks, so I’m looking at campaigns that are closer to their end date than I normally do. This is part of the holiday season as companies continue to run new campaigns, but tighten up the amount of time they’re up. As always, this is not an...
This week, I look at some of the RPG crowdfunding projects that end between November 5th through the 21st. I review some original systems, 5e content, GURPS, and more including a new Dragonlance homage novel from DL legend, Richard A. Knaak.
This week, I look at crowdfunding projects that end between July 19th and August 5th. While these projects include D&D, Savage Worlds, GURPS, and original systems, I’m also sharing an upcoming gaming convention.
This week, I look at RPG projects on Kickstarter ranging from all-ages original systems to a number of 5e games waiting to be discovered. These campaigns end between late May and June 11th.
The Kickstarters, GameOnTabletop, and IndieGoGo RPG crowdfunding campaigns that are covered here end on or before July 23rd. A TORG Eternity sourcebook, a Paranoia expansion, a bundle of GURPS PDFs, a comic publisher tests out an RPG anthology, and a third party D&D starter set are just some of the offerings worth checking out this week.
Philip Reed, CEO of Steve Jackson Games, Warehouse 23, and his own gaming company, never lacks for new projects. On Kickstarter, he has a GURPS project from SJG and another from Philip Reed Games. Phil, who I’ve spoken with several times, and Sean Punch of SJG talk about both of these Kickstarters and why they’re doing so well.
Free RPG Day is coming Saturday, June 13, 2020, is the first RPG event fully executed by new owners, Gaming Days, LLC. Last year, I spoke with Paul Alexander Butler, co-creator of the Overlight RPG and own of the co-owners of Gaming Days, about their acquisition of Free RPG Day (here). As a major event for RPGs, I’ve spoken to some of the publishers that participate in Free RPG Day in GAMA’s...
We previously discussed how The Witcher may have been inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, concluding that although author Andrzej Sapkowski may have seen a tabletop role-playing game, he never played a RPG. We now know that's untrue. Why? Because Sapkowski wrote one.
There are at least 23 RPG and RPG-related Kickstarters ending between October 11th and the 17th (with some leftover projects that end on the 10th that I missed last week). Of those, I link many and share a quick preview of eight RPG Kickstarters and one action figure Kickstarter that has a resemblance to Pathfinder’s mascots.
