Cave Battle Round 2

Tentacles erupt under the feet of the wizard, the warrior and the female rogue. The warrior proves to be too wiley a target, but they latch onto the other two and start squeezing the life out of them. Meanwhile, Weylyn, Jacobson and Lem continue swinging weapons and fists, slowly beating down their enemies. Weylyn, particularly, seems to be weathering the goings on with practiced ease, seemingly undisturbed by the flurry of magic and arms around him.

Braving the writhing tentacles, Giovanni, the wizard, manages to cast a spell. Magical bolts fly from his hand, but impact harmlessly on Menik's invisible shield. He curses under his breath. The rogue, Alicia, manages to wiggle out of the tentacles and step free of the area, but between Jacobson's assualt and the squeezing, looks close to expiring. The warrior and the other man return blows to Weylyn and Lem, but neither connect.

The boggards exercise the better part of valor, and flee south, along the east cave wall. The largest one keeps his body imposed between Menik and the king the entire time. Menik and virtually feel his gaze as he passes by, and might even be thankful looks cannot kill. Well, normally, anyway--magic knows no bounds.

As he leaves, the King croaks out, "Fine, work it out, Venzannnssss. Winner can take the thing, and go. Leave the Boggards alone, we want no more of this!" With that, he is gone, just the sound of flippers on moist rock are all that remain as you turn your attention back to the immediate threat...

Round 2 (PCs+WhiteCloaks):
- Menik casts Black Tentacles, hitting Alicia and Giovanni and missing Sean. The tentacles do 1d6+4 damage (9, rolled for the player) to Alicia and Giovanni.
- Lem does 11 damage to Sean, total of physical and fire.
- Macabee can be heard moving away from the moving westward away from the boggards, still invisible.
- Weylyn attacks Sean, doing 26 damage in two swings.
- Jacobson attacks Alicia, hitting once for 11 damage.

Round 2 (Venzans):
- Alicia uses escape artist to escape the tentacles and steps one square south.
- Sean moves into the water square, provoking AoO from Weylyn and Lem. He attacks Lem once, missing by one.
- Georgio attacks Weylyn twice, missing, and steps away.
- Giovanni casts magic missile, having to brave a concentration check to do so. He singles out Menik for all 5 missiles for 20 damage including evocationist bonus damage. However, Menik has shield, so no damage is taken.

Round 2 (Boggards):
- All three Boggards double move south, the big one coming within 15 feet of Menik, and off the map.

(2) There is a way of placing Black Tentacles so that they do what you would like, but remember, such spells are actually centered on intersections, not the square itself. I chose JK-45 as the intersection that does what you would like. By the time it's said and done, Alicia, Jacobson, Weylyn and Lem are on the edge of the area.

Let the boggards leave. I don't think they'll attack Venza again, and with them out of the battle we can take these traitors.

The tentacles continue to squeeze the enemy wizard, and Menik casts his ball lightning spell and aims the balls at him.

If the foe survives it he'll say "You know you can't take much more wizard. If your lot surrender now perhaps we can still save you."

Menik also puts his staff of minor arcana, which he was still holding, back into his pack. (ooc: move action)

"GRRRRRRAAAAAAAHHHHH!" A flick of the switch, and Weylyn transforms from calm and methodical machine to raging hulk... Shoulders and chest swell, and with a near sickening ripple his arms extend, lengthening so that they'd near drag the ground were he letting them hang. Which he is most definitely not! Muutos hammers into Sean's side with a crunch, and with a show of technique that matches his strength, the raging warrior shifts his feet and goes with the rebound, adding momentum to a follow up swing at the retreating Georgio. That attack misses; somehow Georgio overcomes his surprise at Weylyn's suddenly extended reach and slips the blow. He also manages to dance his way clear of the second swing coming his way, drawing another roar of frustration from Weylyn. The Bloodrager steps a little closer to Georgio, clearly telegraphing his intent to hammer the man once more.

Wielding Muutos with power and skill, Weylyn rips the enemy warrior, Sean Aloghersie down with relative ease before turning on one of his comrades. Although uninjured by Weylyn's subsequent assault, it is clear that the man found the sudden loss of his comrade... concerning.

Cave Battle Round 3

Lightning sizzles the enemy wizard, and the black tentacles choke off his cries of pain. One of the last things he gets out is, "Red dog, red dog!" He tries to cast some sort of spell, but does not really get started.

Hearing the command, Georgio tries to trick Lem and Weylyn with some fancy moves, tumbling by them. However, they are wise to his ruse, and Weylyn smacks him a good one before he arrives opposite of Jacobson. Together, he and Alicia stick sword and knife into the hapless White Cloak commander, and she gasps in momentary pain before recomposing herself. All three involved look to be in bad shape, particularly Alicia, who took a cut from the commander before the red dog call went out.

My understanding is that soft cover still denies attacks of opportunity against Alicia but that it does not affect regular ol' melee attacks. Though Jacobson looks like she might have had trouble, Weylyn seems to have the situation well in hand. Menik utters some arcane words while gesturing, but it is not exactly a spell - rather, he is dismissing the black tentacles, though they continue to squeeze their victim while he does so. He also moves the balls of lightning away from the fallen wizard.

Perhaps my show of good faith will encourage the remaining traitor to surrender.

Weylyn strikes true with Muutos, and in quick succession, finishes off both the enemy rogues, first Georgio and then Alicia. Both are dead before they even hit the floor. Realizing how quickly things are coming to an end, Menik attempts to end the tentacle spell that has already knocked out the enemy wizard. However, he'll never know if his action would have been appreciated, because the tentacles manage to snap the older man's neck before finally disappearing back into the nether from whence they came.

All four of the Venzans who apparently conspired with the Boggards are now very dead, and the Boggards themselves seem intent on steering clear of the group--you can hear their receding steps towards the front of the cave.
