A great crash from behind him sent heart beating in his throat. Not quite grasping what Sashaala was up too, Nert fought the urge to flee, made easier by the fact he had nowhere to flee to. Unwilling to interfere though Nert keeps his bow ready, hoping that he wasn't seen in the dark.

Round 3

“Magubliyet’s left nut!” Drutha exclaimed as she crashed through something covering a hole. She slammed down on the steps and slid down to the bottom on the piece of wood that gave way beneath her, landing hard at the bottom with a groan, staring into the darkness, yet not seeing anything beyond. That was odd. But she had other things to worry about.

Groaning, Drutha retrieved her crossbow and put it away, then grabbed up her glaive and forced herself to her feet. Nothing broken, just bruises and bruised pride. Very likely she had ruined their surprise. She hoped she didn’t get the snake-woman killed.

Drutha hobbled up the stairs.

"It's them!" Saashala blurted in apparent fear. She used the opportunity to step back a bit from the men.

She'd misjudged the situation, it seemed, but perhaps not unsalvageably.

"There's too many to fight ourselves," she pleaded. "I was heading for the road...there may be more people there! Are you with anyone?!"

B1 begins barking orders. He points to B4 and B6: "You two, grab her!" Then he turns to B2 and B3: "You two-"

At that point, a large dragon head grows from the fire, and Moon Moon calls out something incomprehensible to most of you, but fairly angry-sounding, from near the top of the mound. The dragon's head mouths the same words.

A moment thereafter, the horses go berserk as an Orc charges into the midst. Karok slices left and right and manages to free four of them. They bolt, but not before two of them strike out defensively at Karok with their hooves. He catches one directly to the forehead, knocking him out.

One of the horses sprints past the fire, one toward the road, and the other two away into the darkness (the arrows on the map show the direction the horses have gone). The two that remain in their original positions are still staked down but rearing frantically and trying to get loose.

The moment B5 hears Moon Moon's voice, he whips out a Light Crossbow and fires wildly at the kobold, in such haste that the shot misses.

Nert fires back at B5 in reaction, but his shot also goes wide.

Saashala backs away, but B4 and B6 do as they were told and try to grab on to her. She barely slips the grasp of B4, but B6 manages to lock his fingers around her forearm.

Upon seeing all heck break loose, B1 changes what he had been saying to the remaining pair: "The horses! We can't carry anything without the horses! Get them!" But B2 and B3 just seem too confused by the chaos, or perhaps too mesmerized by the dragon head in the fire, and do nothing.

Ripnek stands ready to bring the ground battle to the enemy, while Drutha emerges from the hidden stairwell.

OOC: Both Nert and Moon Moon are visible in the firelight. Ripnek, Karok, and Drutha are out of LOS of the enemy for now. I added a gray line to the map -- the squares under it have LOS to the action near the fire. Anyone on top of the mound can attempt to Hide from the people below if you crouch down, go prone, or move outside the gray line.

Moon Moon can't put the fire out in the same casting of Control Flames as he animated them (the spell says "one of the following ways"). So he can put it out with another casting of Control Flames next round, if he likes.

Saashala's countenance darkened when one of them grabbed her by the arm. She lifted her chin and an imperious glint flashed in her eyes.

So be it. If the lure was not to work, then the lash would have to do.

She uttered a string of siblant consonants that drifted lazily through the air like rings of smoke, echoing strangely...it was hard to tell if it was sound heard in the ears, or something else entirely heard only in one's thoughts.

The ground at Saashala's feet was swallowed in fervid darkness. Not simply that of a shadow, but a living, breathing thing that greedily consumed what light fell into it. From out of that crawling gloom came tendrils that looked like serpents crafted of the same inky blackness. They quested blindly, eagerly, and inevitably began curling around the legs and arms of the men nearest the yuan-ti.

(Arms of Hadar. All creatures within 10' of Saashala, which are all three of the men adjacent to her, plus B3, must make DC 13 Strength saves. Failure means taking [roll0] necrotic damage and can't take reactions this turn. Success means half damage and no further effect.)

Nert looses another arrow at the closest human, then retreats back into the shadows.
Nert Attack: 1D20+5 = [1]+5 = 6

If he can hide first (from nimble escape), he'll have advantage on the roll
Nert Attack (Advantage): 1D20+5 = [15]+5 = 20
Nert Damage: 1D6+3 = [6]+3 = 9

Move: As necessary to hide before the attack, then any remaining movement will be used to retreat no more than 15 yards from the fight.
Action: Attack
Bonus Action: Hide
