GREYHAWK CY963 GOLDEN ERA CAMPAIGN: HEROES OF DYVERS: CHAPTER 4

Kleborn:

Kleborn is feeling better and looks around then glances at the one who said his name. He squints in the darkness as his eyesight is still adjusting to the change of scenery. As he begins to make out the people, he notices the person who recognized him. He thinks who this person is...as thinking he realizes. This is Respen. He met him on his father's ship. Kleborn's father was a ship captain of a viking tribe and he accompanied his dad on many journeys. One of which was a voyage around the pearly sea. It was on this journey that he befriended Respen. It was also this journey that made him realize that life at sea, and decided to explore more. Kleborn was very happy to see a familiar face. "Respen, is that you? It is good to see you my old friend. It looks like we both have been through much since we have last seen each other." Kleborn then focuses on Lathir, and says to him "thank you for helping me regain my strenght. I am in your debt."

Thallok:

"I have seen too many things lately, but a man falling down this well without any support and living to tell a tale is beyond me." Thallok then addresses Kleborn,"you are lucky to be alive northerner."

Thallok then walks back to the passageways with the others who are waiting there, and stands next to Tam-Tam. "those are some nice weapons you have there my little friend."

~ Friends in the most unlikely of places! ~

"Kleborn!!! My friend! How in the blood hell did you find yourself here?!" Respen helps dust off the Northman as Lathir magically attends to Kleborn's wounds. "The last I saw you, we were dodging arrows and liberating good wine from those pirate brigands. I see you found your 'land legs', no? The seas not provide the adventure you longed for? How is your father? I trust he didn't care for your choice to leave the sea. Have you seen Mr. Cobblegood since the western sea? We were separated not long after you and I parted ways. I believe he was going to Greyhawk, and perhaps then to parts far east of the Barony of the Five. I don't know, though. I enjoyed our voyage together. I appreciate the passage and the patience. I still find the ocean beautiful and fascinating, though I doubt my stomach thinks much of it."

Kleborn's father had granted Respen passage on his ship, where he had become acquainted with Kleborn. There was tension between them. It wasn't malevolent or oppressive, but it was palpable. Kleborn's father wanted a sea-faring life for his son. Kleborn loved the sea and respected it, but it wasn't his soul. The elder Northman didn't agree, and he pressed the issue on a number of occasions, particularly after a night in port, drinking savage bitterroot ale. Respen had been a gracious passenger, and he had carried his weight on deck, at least when the ocean was calm. Kleborn's father was more patient with Respen's nausea in rough water than Kleborn's aspiration to adventuring on land. Respen had travelled for a time with a Bixby Cobblegood, an entertaining
portly wiseass of a Halfling who would most assuredly find his way as a smuggler, if he didn't find himself dead first. Respen had met the Halfling leaving Erypt, and they both secured passage on Kleborn's father's ship. Bixby had ripped off an Eryptian mages' guild that had indentured him as 'an acquirer and purveyor of rare items'. He made off with a Baker's dozen magic items, and two chests of gems, fine silk, and enough gold to more than secure his place on the Northman's ship. Kleborn, Respen, and Bixby had shared many nights on the sea smoking their pipes, with Respen and Bixby regaling Kleborn their pasts, and Kleborn explaining his world on the sea with the Northmen. Once separated west of the Pomarj, he hadn't seen either one until now.

He spends a few minutes bringing Kleborn up to speed, explaining that time, and particularly daylight, might indeed be very important right now. He asks Kleborn how he had fallen into the well. Had he tried to jump?

Kleborn:
"Respen it is so good to see you, it has been a long time. I have not spoken to my father very much since I left his ship crew, but the notes I have received shows he is still out there and doing well. He was not pleased with my decision to find new adventures but I think part of him knew that a sea life was not for me. We did have some fun times on that voyage though, didn't we? Good ole Bixby, unfortunately I have not seen that chap since we three last parted ways." Kleborn then tries to find a way to answer the question of how he got here without sounding too mad. "The question of how I found myself falling down this well is a long an very peculiar tale. One you might take me for mad. After I left my father's company I journeyed and found another group, the Grey Cloak Council. They seemed to be the adventuring sort I was looking for. Anyway, we were entering a village and heard a deathly scream coming from a hostel we were intending to check out. We ran for that building and as we entered we saw a ghostly figure, who I think was being controlled by a cleric. The ghostly figure attacked me and teleported me to a strange room, with a strange man, who had me captive in a cell made of magic. Luckily for me the boundaries of the cell was weak, and as you know I do not like to be held captive against my will, so I broke out. In that room were three circles two of which were badly burned, one was in perfect condition. I figured this was a teleportation device, and could possibly get me back to my companions fighting the ghost. As I stepped on the circle I was teleported right over the well, which is how I fell down the well. Now this may sound very strange, but I was teleported to the past. I think where I am now is a few days before where I was. When I stepped I heard a voice say 'into the past ...' and I think I was meant to be here, to fall in this exact spot, to come across this exact group, because the voice continued 'to help those in dire need.' I know this sounds crazy, but I think I was sent here to help. It sounds to me like you may have some undead ahead, and a nasty little goblin. I would gladly accompany you, if you all would have me."

Thallok:
"Many thanks to Dewydd. He, as do the others, expect more undead. These seem to be the best type of weapons for the task ---", Tam-Tam looks to the weapons as if to reassure himself of this fact, "or so I am to understand."

Tam-Tam then looks back to Thallok: "And what of you? Do have anything like these available to battle the undead creatures?"

Thallok looks down at Tam-Tam and gives him a smile, and says "My falchion has not failed me yet."

Vale, you are surprised, suddenly, when you hear a loud yawn, and a bored-sounding voice: "Moradin's beard, it sure is dark in this foul pit! How about a little light...?"

GM:
The area around Vale's axe is lit up as bright as daylight for a 60' radius. In addition, another 60 feet increment beyond that is lit dimly, as with torchlight. The source of the light is obviously Vale's axe, which is now humming softly.

"Ah," the axe says, "that's better. Much easier to see the foul beasties now, eh?"

Dewydd, having some experience with magical weapons, chuckles at Sylvar's surprise. "An intelligent weapon Vale? Nice! What is its name? A friend of mine had one in The Crimson Eye."

Lathir, returning to the group with new company, seems completely unaffected by the unexpected outburst of Respen's weapon. He cocks his head and shrugs as if it is only a matter of commonplace.

"Sylvar, I see you sent a bee to check the paths. Which way should we go? We should definitely get moving."

Tam-Tam, caught by surprise by so many new things happening at once, is amazed by the glowing axe and surprised by the new face escorted by Lathir, Respen and Thallok.

Tam-Tam was hardly slow-witted, quite the contrary; but a lot of new and unexpected things have happened in the last 24 hours of his life, and he was feeling a little overwhelmed.

What with succubi, orcs, new friends and all of them with some amazing power or toy...

Whew! It was enough to make the most balanced of minds quite dizzy.

It would appear that the left passage is a dead end, and has nothing of consequence. Unless the Golem went that way and disguised himself again. The right passage has nothing for as long as the spell lasted. So either the bee that went down the right passage didn't find anything, or it found something but the spell ran out before it could make it back to me.

I suggest we check the left passage quickly, it is short and shouldn't take too long, then proceed cautiously down the right passage.

Lathir listens to Sylvar's plan, nods, then responds.
"Sounds reasonable. I will wait here, at this point, to keep the rear guard. Go on ahead. I have your backs."
