Complexity itself doesn't make it inaccessible - the folks who play RPGs are basically bright, and catch on quick.
Incidentally, pogre's point, which I responded to initially, wasn't about "folks who play RPGs," as in the people on this board, it was about new and long-retired people. But thanks for trying to make me look like I'm insulting everyone on the entire message board. Appreciate that. ;)

I considered it.

I'd like to try it out, now that I think they're addressing the cardinal sin of using the same class structure to build every single class (which is akin to having a restaurant that only serves hamburgers; you can add as many interesting toppings as you want to it, but no matter what you do, you cannot make it taste like a chicken sandwich) but I'm afraid my group has totally given up on 4e; so much so that people would get up and walk if it was seriously suggested (yes, I game with a bunch of primadonnas).

Perhaps I'd play if someone was DMing it, but I think I can safely say I have no need to buy it to run at the moment.

This would be awesome! Something to give as gifts to potential and aspiring gamers as well as an offering at the bookstore for an easy entry point into the world of Pathfinder.
I'm pretty sure there have been murmurings of a Pathfinder Basic, from about as solid a source as you could hope for. But of course, I can't remember when or exactly where (e.g., the thread(s) in question).

And even then, I seem to recall that it was more a case of "wouldn't rule it out" than "definitely so". :hmm:

But there is (maybe. . .) hope! :)

I don't understand. What, exactly, does Essentials provide that would win somebody like me over? You've either tried 4e and didn't like it, or you're not interested in it based on what you've heard from other sources, or you tried it and liked it.

Like I said in my blog post, I simply don't understand what's supposed to get me interested.

One source is Erik Mona's comment on Quest for Fun!: Pathfinder Rising (about mid-page) which reads:
We're looking into pricing and stuff to produce just such a product! --Erik Mona
