Thoughts of a new Star Wars System

Right now, the current Star Wars RPG is owned by Fantasy Flight Games.

If Lucasfilm / Disney was going to give the license to another company to make a new RPG, would you rather they give it back to WEG and have them do a new line of Star Wars D6? Use some other established system? Or make a new system entirely?

Me and star wars are kind of done for the moment. All I'll respect is the movies George made and KOTOR 1 and 2. Nothing else is or ever will be canon to me. What does it matter anyways, the universe is only going to get reboot again as soon as its convenient for Disney. All that EU gone to waste.

Anyone but FFG. I don't like their star wars rpg line one bit.

Does West End Games even exist any more?

Anyway, at present I have no interest in any Star Wars RPG, regardless of publisher or system. Perhaps once Disney sort out exactly what is and is not going to be canon, it might be worth looking at a "definitive version" published by someone, but for now SWSE is good enough for me. (Besides, I can't imagine running a SW campaign any time soon.)

the problem i have with the FFG version is the custom dice. i really dont like games that require a gimmick like that mechanically.

i prefer the idea of a skill-based system like the D6 version, but i could easily see that adapted to another system (shadowrun, WoD, L5R) in a way that worked. SAGA did a reasonable job of the system and included a lot of EU material, however i dislike the way the rules ended up spread across all the books, and starship scale could have been handled better as well.

really, ive been disappointed with all the FFG rpgs that ive seen so far. the system for rogue trader was clunky, and the layout needed a lot of work. the game itself was not that fun to play, in part because you had to hunt through the book for hidden rules to do things like fly the ship to a different world, and characters were lucky if they had a 1 in 3 chance of success at a given task.

After playing Edge of the Empire for many months it just is not that good of a system. I like some of the things they are trying to do but over all I am very disappointed.

d6 was good but quickly become absurd power wise especially with force users. I think if they toned it down and made it more like mini d6 then it would be a bit easier to play.

Isn't Hasbro under the Disney umbrella? For some reason I was thinking they were. Which if they are then I would expect once the license resolves it would shift back to WotC.

A Star Wars version of Numenera (which there is a hack for) would be pretty good I think. Or maybe a Fate version which would allow for more customization and flexibility.

Disney has announced that they're going to completely ignore the EU, thereby screwing over fans and publishers who have kept the franchise alive for the long periods between the films. That makes me much less excited about the upcoming movies.

Having said that, I think it would be a mistake to put out a new Star Wars game until they have decided what is and isn't canon.

As soon as JJ Abrams was attached I knew this was screwed. Well I can fondly remember the original movies and even the prequels for at least having consistency.
