I don't have a problem with the price at all. If you figure price-per-use, it's really pennies compared to other forms of entertainment. I've dropped $50 on a single game of golf... not to mention pay-to-play MMO games.
Not everyone can afford to play golf at $50 a game, or indeed at all. You and I are fortunate to be able to drop ten bucks and not think too much about it; but many people are on very, very tight budgets, especially in this economy, and $10 really matters.

I don't agree with comparing it to inflation from previous versions either. Everything goes up. Artist consignment fees, printing costs, marketing... and on and on. It's not JUST inflation.
No, it is inflation. That's exactly what inflation is: The baseline price of stuff going up over time. Unless artists, printers, and marketers have become less efficient for some reason?

Now my understanding is the cost of paper has gone up significantly faster than inflation, so that might explain some of the higher price. And no doubt there are other factors at work too. But holding all else equal, given the same amount of work and resources to produce it, the price of a PHB in real dollars ought to remain constant.

Anyone else having problems with the layout of the covers?

The base images are good, and the logo by itself is OK.

But, the images seem badly centered, and the bright red of the logos is really, really, jarring. I would have adjusted the red color to match the images, and would have moved the bottom banner down an inch or so.

And, I think the new logo is fine, but only am OK with the "&" being a simple character. Changing that to the rendered silver reflective image is way too busy. The rendered image deserves to be by itself (you could use it as an entire cover by itself).

Thx!

That's pretty typical for the initial pre-order images from Amazon. They're draft images. IE they are the real images, but not with the final formating and editing in place.

I'm not making light of your situation, and I certainly hope it turns around, but if you're putting food on your credit card you should probably hold off on RPG purchase of any kind.

PS

I have gone from bad to worse in the last mounts but I have some hope of getting better (although ) maybe not as good as I was 5 years ago...

Then again if I can sell my novelsybe I will be doing better.

I could not buy a high bounce ball today... So saving up is out of the quastion but at the end of the year the job should go back to 34 hrs witch would put books in the maybe zone but $50 is har

Face off against the most powerfull dragon ever!!!
An adventure for 4-6 novice 1st-3rd level characters.

Hopefully they're breaking free of the 1-3 level pattern (Sundering was 1-3, 1-3, 2-5, and 6-8).

The starter adventure may cover 1-5.

Wandering. Not lost. (He/they)
GenCon

From the way the adventure is talked about being "episodic" in one of the articles I linked, I get the feeling the GenCon events are from the first adventure.

I could be wrong, but that's my impression.

Thaumaturge.

Some how I forgot that no one wants to hear that it is too we pensive... Sorry forget I said anything since everyone else has money to burn maybe one of you would like to buy me some of those books ... My birthday is in sept

I can take up a fund to gather the $15 necessary from the users here. I bet I can find 15 people to kick in a buck. Heck, I bet I could find the 30 people needed to kick in $0.50 each. Or how about a mug or a mousepad? Can I send you a mug or a mousepad with the new D&D ampersand logo on it and the text of "I complained about the D&D book prices and all I got was this stupid mug/mousepad" on it? Would that do it? Cause I'm seriously, I will mail you one of those :)

I am not sure, but here in EU we are told that inflation has been basically near zero in the last few years at least. I'd rather see this as a sign of the times, that a lot of stuff is slowly becoming more and more premium, and the middle class is splitting between those who are doing great, and those who languish. If you're on the green side of the fence, 150$/e are nothing, if you're on the grey side of the fence just get a cheaper hobby. Other things like gym memberships or Lego are also on the verge of becoming premium hobbies.

(That said, I still see RPG as a near-zero cost hobby, if you want... just don't follow the stream of subscriptions and releases)
