D&D 5E I have the DMG!

TarionzCousin

Second Most Angelic Devil Ever
The Paladin at my table has an AC of 21 at level 7. Before the player moved away, our War Cleric had an AC of 21 at level 3. It doesn't break the game. They are not too indestructible. They get hit less than others, but the majority of creatures hit them at least 25% of the time, and that is not accounting for save vs. spells. Our paladin almost died after taking a good fireball near the end of an adventuring day.

I was hoping for something a little more sophisticated than a simple Wisdom check (with modifiers?). For example, there may be some low Wis creatures who almost always run from a fight, or vice versa. Similarly, some creatures may run from fights easily, unless they are protecting their young, etc.

Obviously I can make those changes and decisions as a DM, but I was hoping it would be part of the morale rules. Still, some guidance is better than none.
Agreed.

I use Morale checks in my current Pathfinder game. I would have loved a simple stat line and/or fluff text in the MM along the lines of "Hobgoblins' morale is high when there are at least five of them together. +2 Morale check. However, they take a -2 penalty if there are four or fewer of them still standing."

In the FreeMG*, there is a table for "Adjusted XP per Day," which I'm assuming MagicSN's DM is ignoring. If they are using those rules, then that single encounter should be Deadly regardless of level. Either way, only having a single encounter each day is going to break the game at least a little.

*aka the Basic Rules DMG

Just one last comment in this thread to this issue: you all misunderstand me.
My GM has NO problem balancing his encounters on 1-2 enc. Per day (they are really HARD). His problem with Shield is more on rhe "it is unfair to the other chars who do
Not have this clearly op spell". Will make another thread on this
Issue.

I just love how history repeats itself with these threads...

1) New major book is coming out
2) Lucky gamer finds a shop where they sell the book earlier, thread starts. Lucky gamer on the other hand always declares to be uncannily too busy to follow up
3) Questions flood, answers follow for a day or two, thread becomes most popular thread of the week; in the first thread pages, half of the people already declare the whole edition is broken because of something that grants +3 instead of +2
4) Lucky gamer disappears, thread is taken over by people who don't have the book but still want to post answers on his behalf
5) Micro-fights start here and there over minutia, but always leading to the conclusion that the edition is broken
6) Questions start shifting towards the type "please I absolutely need to know if the Horn of Earbursting deals 1d8 or 1d8+1 damage before I buy the book, my decision on playing new edition entirely depends on this!"
7) Li Shenron writes this useless post
8) Another lucky gamer gets the book, and being a little less busy (but also too generous) accepts to answers questions of the Horn of Earbusting type
9) Moderator steps in and warns "please at least don't post scans..."
10) Everybody starts to get the book. Thread dies, or rather questions stop but thread lives on for a while about the Horn of Earbusting being the proof that the edition is broken

How about, we start to make things up? This is a fantasy game, after all. Post what you imagine is in the DMG and then, if you eventually turn out to be right, you get XP.

Here's mine:

Flanking - Optional Rule
Humanoid creatures have rigid necks and cannot see what is behind them. If you attack a humanoid creature from behind, the rules for attacking whilst unseen apply. If there is any doubt about which way a creature is facing, DM rolls d8.

Now, guys, tell me that's not in the DMG and prove it by quoting the page number that's it's not on.

:D

Folks, I'm sorry, but I've been asked not to answer any more questions. I gave my word, so don't ask me through PM either.

I would also like to forestall any accusations that might arise (this being the Internet and all). I haven't been forced to do this; I've been asked as a favor and I said yes.

Once again, I'm sorry if this is disappointing news, but I'm sure you'll understand. :)

I'll just add one last thing, since I mistyped some information. As someone noticed, the spell point progression was wrong. 3 is the cost at 2nd level, not at 3rd. Just shift the table down for all the levels and a 9th level slot costs 13 points.

I'm writing this just to correct some wrong information that I wrote earlier.

The Armour arguments are ridiculous. If you like it, play it, if not don't. If something has a high AC, use magic or you know good old ol' fashioned Roleplaying - do you really have to kill it?

One of the most underused Actions is Help - a 3rd Level Fighter Champion Archetype (with Improved Critical 19-20) has a 20% chance of hitting ANYTHING at least once on their Turn, regardless of any modifiers or AC if given Help by any PC or NPC due to the Advantage given. If you add Bless and/or Bardic Inspiration into the mix, the chances only increase.

Nikosandros thanks for your help, I'll trouble you no more & respect your decision.

Well, I think I speak for all of us when I say you're awesome for being willing to tell us what you have already. Even if we haven't gotten an answer to everything, it was nice to get a few bonus previews specifically tailored to the things we were curious about. So thank you, Nikosandros, and have fun with your premature book!

You jerk.

:)

For those who find 30+ pages too much to wade through, I've summarized all this on the news page.
