Rumour that Disney will have to sell Lucas Film and some parks to pay for Hulu

Has anyone else heard the rumours that the deal they have to make with Universal over Hulu will cost so much (possibly as high as 70 billion dollars) that Disney will basically have to do a fire sale to pay for it, including selling Lucas Film, Paris & some parks in Asia, parts of Fox Studios, etc...?

They can't use treasury stock to pay it either as that could trigger government intervention over too much media concentration.

Apparently when you subtract the expenses from cash on hand, Dusney only has about 200 million dollars of spendable cash on hand that is not ear marked for bills.

Personally I've never been a fan of Lucas Film, except I enjoyed Willow, so I find this interesting.
I wish I had ten billion dollars so I could buy Lucasfilm and then watch nerds on the Internet "have to" accept my views on Star Wars as so-called canon. As if art were a matter of corporate ownership...

Even I know the trilogy disrepected the central characters of Luke, Solo, and Princess Leia, and killed them off and that was just unnneeded. There was a right way to expand what Star Wars setting was and could be and this wasn't it.
I don't mind that they died and Han's death for example was just fine. What I disliked most is that they were all sad sack failures with both Luke and Han depicted as just running away from their problems. I certainly expected characters like Rey and Finn to take the lead with Luke, Han, Leia and any others taking on the role of elder statesmen. And what the hell were the Resistance supposed to be? Some sort of weird military organization within the New Republic that was fighting the First Order? What the hell was even going on?

And no, Star Trek is far supior to ANYTHING Star Wars has ever done and at least Star Trek had the guts to take on the Utopian Genre which is the hardest genre to do.
I would argue that Star Trek did not start out as a utopia. In TOS, humanity was in a much better place in 2266 than they were in 1966, but the Federation still had its problems and we see examples of human bigotry and Kirk trying to rise above is base instincts. Other than Andor, the majority of Star Wars is just mindless popcorn fun and I won't fault it for that. But Star Trek is certainly the more thoughtful franchise.

Well, no: Han died because that was Harrison Ford's precondition for coming back to play the character, Luke didn't die he transcended, and Leia died because Carrie Fisher did. Indeed, one of the reasons the third film ended up such a mess is that they had to do last minute rewrites to account for that. That, and undermining all the good plot threads from Last Jedi.

Comparing Star Wars and Star Trek makes no sense, apples and oranges. Is Last Jedi better than most Star Trek movies? Yes, because there are only 4 good Star Trek movies, but even good Star Wars and good Star Trek are doing different things. It's like trying to compare a romantic comedy and a horror movie head to head, they have different artistic goals and criteria. Just because both have "Star" in the title is misleading.

Only thing I've seen is a YouTube thumbnail from usual suspects so didn't click on it.
It's possible Disney hasn't made money on Star Wars. They only get around half the box office so 4 billion paid plus oroduction costs of the movies.

They're losing money on streaming. They lost money on galactic Star Cruiser.

That leaves them park attractions, merchandise (books, toys, comics etc) and games. Seems unlikely they have made billions on that.

I find it very unlikely George will buy I back. Not impossible they'll sell it but I doubt it he's the one buying it.
This is false. Disney has made money on Star Wars. In addition to films and tv shows the licensing of merchandise is very lucrative.

Disney broke even or better on Star Wars by 2018. It is an incredibly profitable franchise. I have heard Lucas wants it back but Disney ain’t selling and the cost would probably be prohibitive. I would guess tens of billions at this point.

Yes. One is Science Fiction, the other is Space Fantasy. Not even the same genre.

They don't get all that box office money and the costs of making the movies is over a billion.

That's over 6 billion the box office has returned around half of that 4.8 billion figure.

Idk of they have lost money on Star Wars but that's around 2 billion all the other sources of income have to make up.

Ans the cost of the shows as well Disney+ also losing money.

It's possible SW has t made a profit yet not sure.

That is factored in. Believe what you want. The belief that with the movies, merchandise and other cotent they haven’t made the money back is magical thinking.
