WotC D&D at PAX Unplugged Next Week

Pax Unplugged 2024 is approaching (December 1st-3rd) in Philadelphia, USA, and WotC will be there with various D&D events.

The 50 years of D&D Adventures panel will feature Jeremy Crawford, Amanda Hamon, Chris Perkins, and James Wyatt, who will be talking about D&D adventures of the past and what's coming next year. The panel will be streamed live, so you can view it on the D&D YouTube channel.

There will be various D&D game run by WotC's long-time partner Baldman Games, including the premier of the "special convention-exclusive Planescape mega-event" Powers in Pieces and updated versions of Tomb of Horrors and The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan to celebrate the 50th anniversary early.

There's also hints of "more glimpses of the future of D&D" in the D&D play area.

There are also unconfirmed rumours that the 3d VTT will be available to try.

With that already up, i have a feeling we're going to see some pretty substantial info. Last year, they gave us a full breakdown of products by quarter if I remember correctly, even if Bigby's did end up delayed (and pushing back other products) from what they announced.

Last August, they had a prerecorded announcement, but not much to say. Now, 16 months later, that gives them months more progress on all of next year's products, sot hey can actually say something...

Hasn't it historically been stuff we've already seen, presented as new on the theory that at least some people at conventions aren't highly online gamers?

It would be a good time to start teasing, if not to straight up announce a new book or two for next year that isn’t the core book revisions as all of the previously announced books have been released (excluding the Physical version of “The Book of Many Things” of course).

I’m pretty excited for the Core Revisions myself but I Mm also excited to see what else is to come, especially if we are getting any bone adventure books.

I would bet they'd save that for an online event that will have many more people watching. I'd expect an event like that in January (since we're running out of time in December before people tune out during the holidays).

So, for context, the earliest a 5E book has generally been released is Keys from the Golden Vault at the end of February (the Tyranny of Dragons reprint and the gift set version of Monsters of the Multiverse actually dripped in January, though).

Keys had a 6 month gap from announcement to release, as opposed to 14 for the Book of Many Things (digitally, at least).

Anything they could announce in December this year would see release in 2-12 months, most likely.

So any book released in Q1, for thw actual in the nose 50th Anniversary, is just around the corner now. About the time I would expect them to start up the marketing.
