I think they did a great job with the 2014 PHB art. And it was progressive at the time too! But, there’s always room for improvement, and I’m definitely looking forward to this new pass.I love the 2014 art work. It was the first thing that hit me and sucked me in when I cracked open the PHB in my local FLGS, leading me into getting back into TTRPGs after over two decades of not being in the hobby. What they did well, for me, is both hitting the nostalgia button for me as an 80s era gamer while still feeling fresh and diverse. I've like most of the art in most of the 5e books. I am also an Earl Otus fan and love the weird old-school acid-soaked art of Dungeon Crawl Classics. But I think the art team at WotC has done a great job at threading the needle to appeal to modern fantasy tastes, while still feeling like D&D to older folks like me.
Yeah, that comment was mostly toung-in-cheek. I do genuinely think that caster progression vs. martial progression was an unconscious expression of the creators’ attitudes towards nerd/jock dynamics though.I don't know about Charisma, but the shift toward Dex-based characters being on par in melee with Strength-based ones has been simmering a LONG time. And I think it has far more to do with martial arts, swashbuckler, and superhero (like Daredevil thanks to Frank Miller's run on the series) enthusiasts than theater kids.
I think it does as well.Yeah, that comment was mostly toung-in-cheek. I do genuinely think that caster progression vs. martial progression was an unconscious expression of the creators’ attitudes towards nerd/jock dynamics though.
Don’t you know? “Disney” is when there’s cute/goofy animals and bright colors. The more animals and bright colors, the more “Disney” it is. When there’s a whole lot of animals and bright colors, that’s Anime!
- The images were too colorful (especially when shaded with pink or purple. The teletubby colors)
- There was a cute creature in the image. He-Man Manly Men don't like cute creatures, especially not celebrated cat owner, He-Man.
That's the spectrum of ''not D&D'' for the haters:Don’t you know? “Disney” is when there’s cute/goofy animals and bright colors. The more animals and bright colors, the more “Disney” it is. When there’s a whole lot of animals and bright colors, that’s Anime!
(Don’t bring up Erol Otus, don’t bring up Erol Otus.)

You missed out spectacles. That's the spectrum of ''not D&D'' for the haters:
cute animals -> not-brown colors -> not objectified women (even worst, ugh, mature women!) -> Disney -> super hero fantasy -> Anime -> Woke.
oh c'mon, let's not pretend this whole debate would probably not happen if the art depicted a white male of the same age as the one doing the complaints! You missed out spectacles.
