If d20 products can't compete in the best product category, then it isn't really the best product. If you decide to keep the d20 category (which I suggest you do), you could always have a best non-d20 category as well (while keeping the best overall product category).

I think this is a very fair way to think about it. The big difference is that the expenditure of the Conviction is much less predictable than the expenditure of Hit Points, thus, the higher variability of combat outcome that some have already mentioned in this thread.

While I agree that the damage track of True20 isn't difficult and works pretty well once the players and the DM get used to it, I would disagree that it is fundamentally simpler than HP. There isn't much simpler than, subtracting damage from your HP until you reach 0 at which point you drop...
