    WIP [Untitled]

Oh, wow. Image is huge, though. You might want to resize that. It gets done automatically by the forum, but it still takes a while for my browser to process. Otherwise, it looks really neat. I like the style. It's missing a horizon line, though. Are you planning on adding more to the background?

    [Spelljammer] Man-O-War, Approach

I'm inclined to agree with this. Since you say you like the look, though, and aren't going for 'photorealism' I think part of the problem with the stars is that the stars on the left are very white, and the ones on the right are very red, without much fade between the two... it's like one side...

    Hanasays Art Thread

Looks like I've been gone so long, my old art thread got deleted. :-/ I just wanted to share some of my art. You're welcome to critique, if you like, but I don't plan on reworking any of my older stuff. It's done, I'm leaving it that way. I'm definitely willing to rework newer stuff and WIP...

    A picture paints...

Engilbrand's idea is really clever, I like it a lot. Good point, too. I bet she'll understand her powers a lot better, as well as what the cards represent, if you discuss it and draw it yourselves too. And it sounds like fun!

When You Aren't Playing To Level

A lot of it is a sense of one-upmanship, something that seems to have gotten stronger with later editions of D&D. I started with 2nd ed. Even the difference between that and 4th ed. of the same series, and how the focus of the game has changed, can be pretty amazing. Character optimization...

When You Aren't Playing To Level

Nah, it wasn't a criticism. I think it's an interesting direction for the thread to take. As for game mechanics as boiled down by Fenes, yeah, that's probably pretty much true. The weird thing is that the cap's on RP EXP, but doesn't apply to Combat EXP, yet it doesn't seem to be influencing...

When You Aren't Playing To Level

Interesting how this turned into a discussion about game mechanics influencing gameplay... D20 systems (D&D and related) generally do tend to encourage people to go out and pick fights. Ridcully's mention of Torg in comparison is actually pretty interesting. By the way, Ridcully - I love your...

When You Aren't Playing To Level

That's also an interesting approach. Again, something I'd suggest to the current DM if the players weren't fairly new. Right now they're struggling with learning the game mechanics, so it would throw them off. And then there's the "levels as rewards" aspect. Is there much combat in that...

When You Aren't Playing To Level

It's not like we "lose" exp for roleplaying - maybe I phrased that the wrong way. What I meant is more like, we spent a lot of time wandering around in town getting into trouble - social trouble, though - and because of the "RP Experience Cap" that the DM imposes (he has reasoning for it, I am...

When You Aren't Playing To Level

I just finished taking part in a marathon session. The game is a tabletop Warcraft campaign (which is essentially D20) and my brother is the DM. This was the very first session playing with these characters, so we went through the "introductory phase". The interesting bit was that the entire...

    Gaming Pride / Gaming Shame

Hmm... something I am versus something I do... I don't really think of it in those terms at all. I think that perhaps some of the other posters are right - you are overthinking things a bit. As for people who aren't potential friends, it's not like the fact that you play D&D will become a...

    Cheating cheaters

In the group of people that I play in (not just the group I'm currently playing in, but the social "pool" of players that I tend to play with), there is a designated "rolling area". This is often indicated by a piece of poster board or otherwise clearly delineated. It's well-lit and visible to...

    The Lies of Locke Lamora

I absolutely love this book. One of my favorite books of all time, and Locke is one of my favorite characters.
