D&D 5E Time for Adventure! (A Homebrew Campaign Log)

Great thread, pukunui! Thanks for posting.

    D&D 5E Rogues without Darkvision

This is already the case by RAW. Darkvision allows you to see in complete darkness as through it were dim light. Unless you have the Skulker feat, you are at disadvantage when making Perception rolls in dim light.

    D&D 5E Rogues without Darkvision

I agree that this makes a lot of sense. In complete darkness, all Perception rolls for creatures with darkvision are made at disadvantage. Intelligent creatures would therefore tend to favor light sources. At the same time, there are often large stretches of areas that are completely unlit...

    D&D 5E Rogues without Darkvision

Thanks, Rhenny. One of my players, a halfling rogue, was miserable enough that he was planning a two-level dip into the Warlock class--not for any roleplaying reasons, but simply to pick up Devil's Sight. This was a guy who typically wouldn't do things like that, so I have to believe that he...

    D&D 5E Rogues without Darkvision

This is an interesting perspective, Aaron. I neglected to mention that our games involve a lot of traditional dungeon crawls, so much, though not all, of the action takes place in pitch darkness. Also, I prescribe to the errata'd version of the Hide rules, which state that "The DM decides when...

D&D 5E I hate choosing between ASIs and Feats

As a DM, I wrestled with the same conundrum, which I chose to somewhat alleviate by giving characters a more generous set of starting attributes.

    D&D 5E Rogues without Darkvision

I mentioned this in another thread, but I'm curious to hear if others have shared my experiences: I've been in a couple of campaigns containing rogues without darkvision. Watching these guys try to perform their scouting duties while holding torches aloft to light the way was pathetic enough...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Thoughts of a 3E/4E powergamer on starting to play 5E

This. With at-will advantage and a defense strategy which takes it for granted that you will be getting hit a lot, the Barbarian seems custom-tailored for people who hate swinginess. I was drawn to it immediately. My mental saves are my biggest concern, so I stick close to the paladin.

    D&D 5E Darkvision in a Gothic Setting

I've been in a couple of campaigns containing rogues without darkvision. Watching these guys try to perform their scouting duties while holding torches aloft to light the way was pathetic enough that, as a DM, I was sorely tempted to make the monsters pretend not to see them--like when you play...

CURSE OF STRAHD Is Out Today (In Some Stores)

I thought it interesting that Mordenkainen makes an appearance in this module. I won't spoil it except to say that he fought a colossal duel against Strahd. EDIT: Just noticed that this was already mentioned above by HonorBoundSamurai632

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

Be aware that reducing the adventuring day to one or two tough encounters on average will have a pretty dramatic effect on balance across the different classes. Warlocks, for instance, will be pretty severely nerfed relative to sorcerers and wizards of similar level. A 1-level dip into the...

Deciding on a character for AL.

An interesting and original build. Thanks for posting the details.

Deciding on a character for AL.

Interesting build. How did you allocate your ability scores? Shocking Grasp will key off of Charisma, but you also need a high Strength and Wisdom. It seems fairly MAD if you're doing a point buy.

D&D 5E Today is a good day to die!

Barbarian. Compared to the barbarian, the others are a buncha scared, simperin' jackanapes; 'fraid ta muss their pretty hair!
