We have a tendency to add the fantastic to make things more dangerous, when navigating white water can be plenty dangerous enough (especially if you don't have someone who is trained/familiar with that stretch of river.)...

It is a ton more work to modify a monster than just pulling open a PRD tab on the trusty 'puter. So mostly stock. If they are modified, there is a good reason.

Sure, a Cimmerian could get plate, and probably wear it well. I just don't think it is being manufactured in Cimmerian villages. The money/resources/demand just isn't there. To use the real world example, plate certainly was in use in 1400, but wasn't made or worn often in the Scottish Highlands.

I would say yes to mail and no to plate. The real work cognates for the Cimmerians and Aesir/Vanir are Celts and vikings, respectively. Neither of those say "Plate wearers" to me. Not to mention taking care of plate in the wilderness being (in theory) a big pain in the ass.

I think there is a ton of "hidden" demand for this: I know it is exactly what I want. The problem (as stated earlier) is the balance: how old school vs. clean mechanics and options. I've messed around with hybridizing as well and it's tricky, but if someone gets it right...they could be onto...
