    Experiences playing "oddball" (base) classes

I really liked the ninja. Most people compare it to the rogue, since they fill a similar party role, but I think that's the wrong comparison. Rogues are more front-line: They flank with the fighters and are actually in the combat. Ninjas are the sneaky ones: They don't bother to get in the...

    Experiences playing "oddball" (base) classes

I played a Swift Hunter Scout/Ranger and a Ninja, enjoyed them both. The games ended fairly low-level, unfortunately.

    Spells which you dont allow

What do you have against Goodberry? I am curious. I would also like to hear your reasoning for Rope Trick and Spiritual Weapon, if you would share it.

    Looking for a Dog-like Race

Gnolls are the classic dog-faced monsters. +1 LA, 2 humoid levels. They start with one feat, +1 armor bonus, darkvision to 60 feet, and Str +4, Con +2, Int -2, Cha -2. The minuses hurt somewhat, but he is going to be a sturdy bugger and starting 3 levels back is not as painful as some...

Spellthief vs. Undead - Options in a Fight?

Remember that undead are not immune to figment or glamour spells, and a decent number either have low intelligence or are mindless. You think they're going to figure out that the pit that just opened up in front of them or the wall that closes them in aren't real? Or that the black, roiling wall...

    Beguiler vs. themed Wizard?

It depends on what you want from your character. Go with the wizard if you want a wider range of spells, a familiar or power from losing the familiar, scribe scroll, and all the knowledges. You'll have to be okay with having lousy attack and hit point progression for those levels. Go with...

    Competative low-level Gnome Illusionist?

So, you never want to use a scroll of teleportation? Ever? Or plane shift? Dimension door? Planar binding? None of these can be duplicated with shadow spells, and you won't even be able to use magic items for these effects. How about Mage Armor? That's a conjuration spell, too. And don't get me...

    Race with Charisma bonus?

Spellscales from Races of the Dragon get +2 Charisma, - 2 Con (ouch), a meditation that basically gives you limited metamagic, and the dragonblood subtype for no level adjustment. Rather than race, perhaps consider class and build? Warlocks, Beguilers, Bards, and Sorcerers would all tend to be...

    Competative low-level Gnome Illusionist?

Oh good lord, never, EVER ban Conjuration! No teleports? Are you mad? Jeebus... I'd suggest Evocation and Enchantment or Evocation and Necromancy. Some people suggest Abjuration, but I think giving up the Dispel Magic line would just hurt too much.

    Building a beguiler Zhentarim spy

*sigh* This conversation pains me. The reason you want to take one level of something before level 7 as a Beguiler is to delay your advanced learning, opening up higher-level spells. That way you can get Shadow Conjuration at that level, which you can't if you go straight Beguiler. Also, the...

    Torturing a PC (a bit)

How about something painful, cosmetic, and curable? Bugs or an ooze that burns and infests the skin would be my choice. Put a couple drops on his chest or belly, let him watch as it starts creeping across his skin, burning, eating his nerve endings. He gets the physical pain and the mental...

Wizard helping fighter from being grappled

Eh? Where do you get that it puts the wizard into the grapple? Benign transposition lets you switch any two willing parties, of which they can be one, but don't have to be. Summoned creatures are always willing, and the spell will work on them as long as they are Large or smaller. Summon a Dire...

Wizard helping fighter from being grappled

Benign transposition is great if you have a summoned anything with you. They will always be willing! Baleful transposition is also cool, but probably not as funny to have the guy suddenly grappling his cohort rather than an enraged dire badger.

    Warlock to cover rogue role?

You might consider one level of a class with trapfinding, then go warlock. Rogue would be the obvious choice, but there is also a ranger variant with trapfinding, as well as Beguiler or Scout. Scout is an especially interesting option, as I think skirmish should work with your eldrich blast.

    Help me pick my feat?

It would kind of help to know what your build is so far. Anywho, I'm a fan of Greater Manyshot from the XPH. If Dragon feats are allowed, look into Deadeye.
