I missed the window as well.

How did you come to EN World?

I hadn't played for many years, but a friend convinced me to join a group that he was in playing in. Each week, I drove 2 hours each way to play, but I was excited to play again, and I enjoyed the Midnight setting in which we were playing. Since I was just getting back into gaming, the GM of...

Any good D&D 3e or later gameplay podcasts?

Thursday Knights is excellent IMO. Thursday Knights 4th edition.

    Stacking advantage: doing the math

Would you also stack disadvantage? I think I would. Shooting a crossbow at a hidden target while leaping over a pit while intoxicated should be difficult (rolling 3d20 take lowest). But does it tamper creativity?

    Probability question: Advantage and Disadvantage

If I'm understanding this correctly, in a battle with 2 goblins: a guard (AC12) and his chief (AC19), advantage against the guard gives me a +5 or so, whereas advantage against the chief only gives me a +2 effectively. It makes sense that the tougher opponent would be more difficult to hit, but...

    Flatter Ability Score Bonuses

I'm liking this idea. I haven't looked at the math, but here's a thread discussing the topic: http://www.enworld.org/forum/new-horizons-upcoming-edition-d-d/317623-my-theory-5es-core-mechanic.html

    The Core Mechanic and DCs

I would favor additional dice as well. Haven't done the math, just spitballing, but something along the lines of: apprentice = 1d20 journeyman = 1d20 + 1d6 expert = 2d20 (take higher) master = 2d20 (take higher) + 1d6

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

Rather than the riders taking effect on a certain die roll (16-18 e.g.), perhaps tie it to exceeding the target's defense by a certail score: beat target defense by 2 or more = class A rider beat target defense by 5 or more = class B rider etc. Also, maybe some riders need to meet certain...

    Re-visiting the Tiers

I prefer 3 tiers, maybe a 4th for mundane (as decribed up thread). One idea I've been mulling is to have each of the 3 tiers correspond to the number of d20s to roll on attacks/skills, take highest, to model the PCs increased ability, but keeping the numbers down: Heroic - 1d20 Paragon - 2d20...

    The D&D Logo

Not that I could do better, and the making of a logo is difficult, but honestly, I didn't care for any of them. Either the letters were too blocky or the font was difficult to read, or didn't evoke any emotion. IMO. I might choose 7 if pressed. Looking at them all side by side in the...

D&D 5E D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

I'm sure it's been brought up before in debates for a wound system, but separating out wounds from HP could also help balance cases such as falling from a 50 ft cliff. A fall such as this could partly affect wounds rather than simply draining HP and just being a bump to high level PCs.

D&D 5E D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

I'm liking this idea, plus Kid Snide's observation that it separates out two types of healing, which if a Cleric is able to heal HP and Con damage, they may not be as forced to be a healbot when someone's HP is low. Just throwing out ideas: When first bloodied - 1d6 Con damage When first at 0...

Currently have 3 players and a DM with the campaign starting up in September or so. Could use 1 or 2 more.
