    Drawbacks for a Fighter/Mage Kit

I disagree. The archetype of the Elf is the reason for its magic use while fighting, not some sort of use of both classes. You can call me "pedestrian," which I presume is some kind of insult, but it is not a fighter/mage. The fighter/mage as a multi-class comes from 1e. just because someone can...

    Drawbacks for a Fighter/Mage Kit

I know BECMI. The Elf is not a Fighter/Mage. He is an Elf. It has a single experience table, does not split hit points, etc. The only thing alike is that he casts spells. They are different classes. The Elf isn't anymore a Fighter/Mage than the Halfling in BECMI is a Fighter/Thief. They are not...

    FLGS question

I think the store owner should play in games. But they should either leave someone at the counter to run things, or let the group know they will have to frequently attend customers. Many of my bad experiences at a LGS come from trying to pry unwilling owners away from games so I can give them money.

    Drawbacks for a Fighter/Mage Kit

F/M was not possible in BECMI or B/X. Multi-classing began in 1e.

    The 216 Club

18 seemed to always lead to issues in most of my games, as getting one is not terribly common. IN fact, that disparity of Attributes causing issues led to me giving out the fixed array for a long time, because 16 is perfectly good, and doesn't lead to such an exaggerated advantage.

Combat-heavy, only 2 players: seeking advice

I don't think the balance needs to be tipped towards combat too much - it is just that combat goes faster with fewer people. The key, if you go this way, is creative combat setups. A long series of straight up fights can bore 2 people. But challenging, interesting scenarios can be a hoot, and...

Gamehackery: What Does the Subscription Boom Mean to Gamers?

This. I think the subscription model, also, is very profitable to publishers because of people forgetting to cancel subscriptions. I have many friends who don't play certain MMOs who kept (or still have!) their subscriptions active.

Looking for a non-D&D high fantasy roleplaying system

I've really enjoyed Legends of Anglerre, as it is a pretty good fate ruleset for it. Storyteller doesn't necessarily have fantasy, but Sorcerer's Crusade and the Dark Ages line both could provide reasonable simulacra.

    Drawbacks for a Fighter/Mage Kit

I've always found that armor restrictions and the Hit Point trade off makes things difficult for them, at least at pre-questing-for-Elven-Chain levels.

    AD&D 2nd reprints, covers revealed

Even though it is expensive, I really like the look of them. Now to just get the cash to make it happen...

    Let's read the entire run

That is a terrible reason to shoehorn things. And a shame.

    Can the GM cheat?

It seems like this is the kind of thing that can be headed off by discussing it up front, as people tend to have very different expectations.

Pretty Darn Fun (a look at new PDFs)

Does anyone know if the WotC older PDFs will ever be available for POD?
