Here is how you stop this stuff:
Big stores put certain things on deep discounts hoping you come in and buy that item AND something else that they have marked up or at normal price. So if we all just bought the one item that they ether make no money on or lose money on...
Kobold Knights
Right after 3e came out my players ran in to a Kobold enclave that was protected by 3 Kobold Knights. I gave them all 4 or 5 levels of fighter and the ride feats mounted on war dogs... that was a cool battle. My PCs still talk about it today.
My favorite image from it was...
Grog:
If you notice my statement relies on the DM understanding how the encounter should work... if the DM does not understand how to use DR (meaning he/she throws them in with out thinking of the consequences) then yes your are right the party will be screwed or the fighter will be made...
The amount of posts on this subject shows how hard it is to come up with a good system for DR... but from what I have read about the new system and what I have seen here I think it will be VERY good. The point of the whole system is not to force every fighter to carry every type of weapon but...
Personaly i would let this apply to both scrolls & wands as long as they were equiped in easy to get to places. I think this is a very neat and none over powering use of the feat.

Here is what I do:
The DM makes all the checks that do not immediately affect the players. Like spotting a secret door or checking for traps or listen checks for distant foes.
The players make all check that will directly affect them with in the next 6 seconds. Like if the rogue has snuck up...
Haste says very clearly you can take a partial action before or after your normal action for that turn. With that in mind I can see no reason why someone can not take their hasted partial action and then during their normal action decide to delay. If the person decided to take the haste action...
AoO do slow the game down... but they make it a hell of a lot more fun to play... at least to me :)
One thing you might try is to decrease the amount of foes you fight and increase the CR of the ones you leave in... Stuff will go tons faster if you have 4 orcs with 2 levels of warrior than...
The best thing to do in these kinds of gray areas is to just go with what is easiest to deal with in the game… as long as it is not game breaking… and I don’t see how letting you ride your horse with flaming armor spikes would be game breaking. If these items dealt damage all the time it would...
If the PC casts rock to mud and the monster sinks waist deep and then the PC cast mud to rock and the monster does not make his reflex save and is trapped what happens? Does he just have the -2 effects from the rock to mud + he can’t move?
I swear i have seen the answer to this some place but...
As a DM i hate to say this... but i think you, the player, are right ;)
I see the perspective of your DM but have him look at spells like Detect Evil... they have no spell resistance and they would have let you detect the Rakshasas... assuming they did not have some other effect running on them...
What about Quest?
What if you have Quest cast on you and while performing the act specified in the spell you die... then some one raises you... would you still be under the Quest spell? This came up in my game and I ruled yes... but only because it serviced my needs at the time... which is...
