    All D20 Is Broken

D&D. Star Wars. Forgotten Realms. Eberron. Modern. Any D20 based game I've played past level 7 or 8 just seems to get way broken. Once you're higher than that, no combat goes on longer than 4 or 5 rounds...nothing like the big gun-fights in movies, or long, elaborite lighsaber duels in Star...

Proactive Players in a Reactive Campaign

When I first started playing D&D, I wanted to do all kinds of crazy stuff, but people were like, "Wow...that's out of left field...we're going to rescue the princess" So, I started making characters who are more organized, more lawful, more inclined to just "go with the flow". Then, in my new...

    Picking a deity for a non-cleric PC

For me, the choice of religion depends on the character: Sometimes, it's a lip-service sort of thing, "I'm a merc, so I worship the god of strength." Other times, it's a big part of their character. I don't like playing clerics, but I like playing paladins and religious fighters. I've got a...

What's your favorite "basic" race to play (and why)?

My longest played character was an Axani...they're Lawful plane-touched, but look human. My second longest played character was a Gold Dwarf, who was awesome, though people thought his weapon was overcompensating for something. I think my favorite race to play, though, is human: I fall into...

High-CR Monsters: How Tough is Too Tough?

In D&D, you shouldn't be all that worried about the party losing a member, because there's always Ressurection. In Star Wars, I am always willing to hand out those Dark Side points for similar effects..."oh, you'd drop to -10 wounds from that shot...take 3 Dark Side points and you won't die."...

    Star Wars - Jedi Heroes

My guy, in particular, goes for AC: Defense and Knight Defense, Improved Combat Expertise. If I roll a 16 on my Enhance Ability, and get a +8 Dex, and do Full Combat Expertise and fight defensively, my AC goes to 50. But, I swear, all the nat 20's the DM rolls are against me. What I'm really...

    Star Wars - Jedi Heroes

My friend and I were talking about different playstyles for Jedi. Before I rolled up my character, I looked and some of the classes and they way they worked, and I decided on doing Weapon Finesse with expertise and Form IV. I thought it was a rather smart idea, and so did he, so both our Jedi...

for the "core only" purists - availability of PrCs by class

My thinking on this is: After playing with a bunch of house rules and AEG/Mongoose books, I've decided that it's more fun to do Wizard's only. But, *my* Rule 0 is: The game should be fun for players and DM alike. The way I see it, when I DM, is that I'm having fun just setting up scenarios or...

What Prestige Classes shouldn't be allowed in adventurer parties?

One of my favorite characters was a Monk/Paladin with the Vows of Peace, Nonviolence, and Poverty, and he was one of my favorite characters. He made a great party leader, and that included a Frenzied Berserker, I think. I mean, the way I see it, if I'm playing a neutral good figher, and...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Shinobi

I like the class idea...maybe if the Jutsu's were all spells instead, and were gained as a ranger or paladin might gain spells. You already have a decent spell-list, then you might take a few other spells or abilities that you've seen that you may want there. Ultimately, what keeps me from...

    Star Wars - News?

I'd really like to see the Dark Side Sourcebook re-released, without so much of the "Alright, this is a book to play evil, but make sure the PC's lose" slant. Also, I'd love to see core classes for Sith and Dark Jedi Guardians/Consulars.

My fighter always gets battered-am I "normal"?

I kept telling them that....their favorite thing to say was "I'm not that kind of rogue." To which I replied, "What, the useful sort?" They had it set in their minds they were as good of fighters as a Fighter.

Scourge of the Seas (Stormwrack): too much?

I would say that ability is not over-powered, and this is why: In playing D&D for the last 5 years or so, with five or six DMs, and countless adventures and a few campaigns, the only times we've ever been on the water, no one knew how to sail or swim.

My fighter always gets battered-am I "normal"?

I was the fighter in a group of three rogues, and none of them had disable device...my HPs were always wasted on being the party trapspringer. But, many of the others have mentioned tactics, and it can make a very big difference. When you guys see enemies, use magic or mundane means of putting...

    Attack Focus and Balanced Attack

I like the Attack Focus feat, but it's prereq should be BAB +6...if you're sacrificing your second attack to have a slightly better to hit, that's one thing...but, the only thing you give up at 1-5 BAB, is the ability to move afterwards.
