I think I still would not be super enthusiastic because of the 5e rules as a foundation, but if they e.g. did an official adaptation of Mass Effect or a 5e version of Gamma World, I would probably check it out.

Nothing WotC would make in that arena is better than what Level Up (or other 3pp) are doing.
Don't underestimate the value of "official" to many people.

I can only speak for me. Official is of value only as far as wholly-owned IP is concerned for me. I've never understood people's insistence on it beyond that.

If you were to ask X number of players as to what constitutes a new edition, you're going to get some consensus from some of the players, but not all of the players.

2. I am pretty satisfied with 5e as it is and dislike a fair number of the changes we've seen. I am very disappointed that we haven't been given the chance to provide feedback on DM side stuff, such as the new design for legendary monsters using multiple reactions instead of legendary actions. Altogether, I am certain to buy, and likely to implement some amount of the revisions or changes into my game, but will probably continue to use the 2014 rules as my primary rules chassis.
