D&D 5E Prestige classes in Next?

With PrC-like qualities so intrinsically baked into the existing 5e classes and feats, it doesn't seem that 5e is going to go the PrC route any time soon. My guess is that this PrC-less direction is a way to differentiate itself from the 3e/Pathfinder PrC-heavy system, and so come into its own...

    D&D 5E Preview: Intellect Devourer

So cute... They're absolutely adorable. They look like puppies with those big paws.

D&D 5E Spells not in the PHB that you may have been expecting...

Thank you for that. Earlier versions (when the spell was called improved invis) specifically stated that the recipient of the invisibility could attack and remain invisible. The description for greater invis does not specify this and thus my thinking it was not the same as improved invis.

D&D 5E Spells not in the PHB that you may have been expecting...

Was noticing a handful of my favorite spells from past editions that did not make it into the new PHB. In particular, I was on the lookout for: - glitterdust - improved invisibility (which someone pointed out is greater invis) - prismatic sphere (although the prismatic wall is pretty close) -...

    D&D 4E Whose staying with 4e?

Love 4e mechanics and balance... Despite the nostalgic feelings of earlier editions, my group enjoys the balance of 4e tremendously and we fear the return of imbalance with 5e. most of us have agreed to be open to 5e, but our examination of the new DnD will be viewed through 4e colored glasses.

Have you been published in Dragon?

Had over a dozen published starting in 213 with the Demiplane of Shadow, a handful of Player's Options articles for the various campaign settings, a couple of Planescape articles (Lords of Chaos, Pox on the Planes), a few I can't remember and the last being a collaborative effort updating the...

    Let's read the entire run

Ahhhh. The Demi-Plane of Shadow. My first article. How I fretted over that thing. It was written/submitted before Planescape was released, and it followed the 1e Manual of the Planes format as closely as possible. I offered to "planescape" it after PS's release but the editor said it was too...

More Dark SUn tidbits by Rich Baker

Other than the re-releasing of the Prism Pentad series, are there only these 4 Dark Sun products scheduled for release next year? Dark Sun Campaign Guide (looks to be a Player's Guide/Campaign Guide combo?) Dark Sun Creature Catalog (is this the first setting specific monster-type manual?)...

I may have written myself into a corner...

As they are so low in level, and they wished for wealth, make it a scaling Ring of Infinite Coins. Each day it produces one coin of a type minted in the land they are currently in. At 10th level, the ring could produce more coins, perhaps each one appearing hours after the first one. The Ring...

    My name is "Defendant Radzikowski"

    - Re-read the purchase agreement when you bought your PDF. You likely signed away your rights to local laws and agreed to handle disputes in US court or US arbitration. Such provisions are standard with online purchases and they are enforceable. - Get a lawyer, preferably one familiar with cases...

Manual of the Planes Revealed Over on RPG.net

Second the love for Faction War! I don't think I knew at the time when I bought that it would be the last PS accessory ever. :.-( If ever a gaming product demanded a sequel, Faction War was that product. Perhaps one day Monte Cook will hear my nightly secret prayers and sketch out in great...

What is too silly for D&D?

When I first saw them in some Spelljammer accessory back in the 1980s, I cringed. And I believe they were followed up with Miniature Giant Space Hamsters.

If I combine the Dark Sun and Ravenloft settings, I get...

This topic was covered in the 1992 Ravenloft accessory "Forbidden Lore". Basically the domain is a floating domain of the Athasian city of Kalidnay that was pulled into the mists when a dragon-advancement ceremony of unspeakable evil attracted the Dark Powers. The casting of the 10th level...

    Thiefling names

The old style tieflings seem more compelling to me than the distilled emo version we have today. When it comes to tieflings, I prefer their pre-4E flavor text. They first appeared in the early 1990s as a player character race for the Planescape Campaign Setting. If you want some amazingly...

Feeling short changed by 4th Ed.

I understand precisely what the OP is saying... and I am drawing a different conclusion based on my personal experience. To summarize what the OP said: there is a strong feeling while reading the PH (and DMG) that it appears somewhat obvious that there will be more coming in the way of left out...

D&D 4E HELP! Attacking with a Weapon... Where in the 4e PH is detailed info available?

THANK YOU! I had been searching the book/index but never thought to look for Basic Attack (thinking all my answers should have been under Attack in the Index). :D :D :D :D

D&D 4E HELP! Attacking with a Weapon... Where in the 4e PH is detailed info available?

Other than the basic info on Attack Rolls (p26, PH), where else in the PH or DMG is there info on simple attacks with a weapon that do not involve invoking a power? Is there such a section? Is it presumed knowledge that a player carries over from an earlier edition? Or does a character making...
