So I'm building a gaming table...

Last time I built a gaming table it was 4x8 1" plywood Painted with a couple of layers of magnetic paint (http://www.kling.com/magneticpaintindex.html), then a 4x8 sheet of one inch marked grid paper, to top it all off was a thick coat of clear spar varnish.

    Realistic Combat

I read someplace in the FBI website that overall survival rates for gunshot wounds are something like 70% for handguns and 30% for high powered rifles (no indication on number of shots or circumstances). IMO this leads to the idea that the range of damage for most weapons in D&D is inadequate...

Cool Uses of Music During Gaming

I often use music to set the tone for a scene. the Imperial March works well for introducing the really bad enemies. Last of the Mohicans has got a good track for action, etc. Have about 20 different playlists with different moods - from ambient (Celtic) to Tension. Just have to flick to the...

Tips and Tricks to speed up gameplay.

I don't like most DM screens since they use the paper in portrait orientation. I find this to be too tall and obstructive. A four panel Landscape orientation screen works best IMO. Had to make my own and print it on cardstock then laminate. I'll post a pic of the final result when I get home...

How many people have you played D&D with?

Probably something well over 200 people, I grew up a military brat and had constant churn thru players and DM's as people moved in and out of the community. When I was in the service myself, we would always make a point of packing our D&D stuff when deployed and try to get at least a game a...

Can you teach someone not to (bad) metagame - (or at least not be rude)

The problem isn't in character talk - it is disruptive, OOC talk. Seems like a reasonable DM action to me that the character is concentrating more on the other characters actions than on his own. and is therfore preoccupied and using his action. Also remember that a round is only six seconds...

Can you teach someone not to (bad) metagame - (or at least not be rude)

Its deliberately designed to be passive agressive - the direct approach hasn't worked, so I'm suggesting some options that have worked for me in the past. There are other, more agressive actions to take if these don't work. The whole point of this discussion is that the player won't conform...

Can you teach someone not to (bad) metagame - (or at least not be rude)

Some pre-emptive actions for the GM in this case. 1: If he talks during others initiative - that is his turn for the round. When it gets to his initiative say 'I'm sorry, you have already gone' and skip over him. 2: Give him wrong info for the knowledge rolls - follow the results of the...

    Stats for Tolkien Elves

Noldorian elves are extremely powerful, like anything from Tolkein's First Age. As you progress thru the Ages, the LA should also step down. First Age - +8LA, Second Age +6LA, Third Age +4LA would be my guess. There is a reason that they called Numenoreans, the greatest of all the mannish...
