Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

A good argument yes, but I believe limited buying availablility is not a bad thing (as I stated in my previous post in this thread). A better argument for not having unlimited buying availability is that if the players can buy whatever they want/require from shops etc it completely destroys the...

Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

I personally don't like the idea of going to a magic shop that has anything in the DMG available for sale - just don't make plain sense to me. When I played in Shackled City there was a shop that had a few items and the DM made random rolls every so often to see what had been sold/bought by the...

    Best level to play?

1st to 3rd. I like low level, low magic games best where a masterwork weapon is your prized possession and a magic one stuff of legend. The 'fear factor' at low level is awesome IMO. I do enjoy playing the game at all levels though.

DMs - What rolls do you make for your players?

The DMG suggests making rolls for the following on players' behalf:- Bluff, Diplomacy, Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Use Rope, Search, Spot. What rolls do you make as DM? I am curious as in a current game I play in the players make all rolls and it does detract from the suspense when for example...

    Old School Style Artist

I see it fine too. Very impressive work, takes me right back. Any of your art would have graced 1st Ed books. I love your style. Keep 'em coming!

Motor oil protects against hobgoblins with battleaxes

There's also Hobgoblin ale from the Wychwood brewery, a very nice tipple :) http://www.wychwood.co.uk/wychwood_hobgoblin.htm

    Does anyone use props?

Back in the mists of time a previous DM used to wear a big black cowled cloak with a large brass key round his neck. Lots of candles that used to get played with ending up with wax all over the place.

If you had to cut two core races from your game....

Humans, it's fantasy after all, might force some roleplaying outa some ;) Half-Elves, too close to human and nerfed in 3.5

Differences in powergaming in 1st/2nd and 3.0/3.5

LOL! We have no thrusting either, it's not live action roleplaying after all :D Edited: Sorry Ron, just noticed you're in Rio. I would not even know where to start posting in Portuguese :o

Differences in powergaming in 1st/2nd and 3.0/3.5

I look back in fondness to 1st Ed but there's no way level progression was faster back then. IIRC some classes needed 350,000 xp per level beyond 9th. The OP fails to compare the edtions with regard to powergaming but I would say it's much more prevalent in 3rd. 1st Ed had more focus on...

    Recommend map/campaign cartographer?

I haven't been a DM for a while and am planning to run a C&C game. I have a few fledgling ideas for a world and some campaign plots but am looking for inspiration. Can anyone recommend any cartography programs (preferably free/demo)?

    who else loves the C&C...?

I'm with you on this one Larcen, we just use common sense too. I've never even seen C&C, anyone got a link to an overview of it?

    Mithril bucker, or light shield

D&D restrictions on armour/shields & spellcasting are about game balance, end of story. We can't try to reason about realistic spellcasting when we don't realistically know what it involves. Just accept the rules as is, they are there for game balance, not realism.

    The Dragonlance Saga--your experiences

I played them when they first came out. I was Sturm Brightblade and enjoyed the early ones immensely. The later modules using Battlesystem weren't so hot.

Need PC ideas for Shackled City AP

I played a Half Celestial ranger/fighter right through Shackled City and enjoyed it immensely. If you can handle the level adjustment ;) I am now playing a sorcerer (Warmage to be) in Age of Worms, level 3 currently. Loving that too.

    Size of character parties

Always 5 players with 1 character each. I thinks it is easy to control more than 1 character but near impossible to roleplay more than 1 properly. We did hire a cleric at the end of Shackled City to get us through it.

    re-rolling 1's

Despite giving all monsters max hit points I may add :p I am sore as I just rolled 1 hit point last level :(

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

No as I recall he just laughed and let his minions do it  I never did find out about the goblin, I had only just joined that particular campaign but he obviously had a history with the other party members.

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

I once played a rogue who found himself alone and on the wrong side of a locked door in a room containing a horde of shadows, a lich and a blue goblin. The other players chanted 'not the blue goblin?!' I didn't have a clue what they meant but it scared me witless, more than the lich! In the...
