    What would Ryan Dancey do?

I think 3E's big innovation was to make the game much more about how to build a character to be as powerful as possible. In 1E and 2E you really didn't have many options to fiddle with. There a few things, like kits and weapon proficiencies, but it wasn't nearly on the same level as it is in...

Would you pay for so-called Online "Dungeon/Dragon" content from WotC?

I don't pay for online only content. I sometimes make exceptions for adult content or books only available on PDF (old Planescape, for example), but Wizards D&D stuff? Nah.

    Ever used Leadership?

Have you ever played in a game where one of the PCs had the Leadership feat? How did it work out? Is it a lot of extra power?

Why isn't our society freaking out over this?

Some people are, it just isn't always leading to productive action. Also, keep in mind: Most of those are non-custodial kidnappings (Mommy got custody, Daddy wanted to see his kids too) and run-aways. Which are still bad, just keep it in mind.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Where is the archive? Thanks, -L PS As long as we're talking fiction, I'll throw in a recommendation for William Gibson's All Tomorrow's Parties.

    Market for Magic Items?

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm actually going to be DMing a campaign and am trying to decide how to handle it. As MacLaren said, I'm wondering whether I have to make my guys trudge around with whatever weird stuff they get or if they can custom build their characters. BTW, why is your name...

    Market for Magic Items?

Can magic items be bought and sold? How easy is it to do? If I have 2,000 gp and want to buy a +1 Sword, can I just walk into a store and pick one up? What if I want to sell the same sword? Do I get half price like in a video game? Are there any rules covering this sort of thing, or is it...

    Instant Wizard?

Making fun of their buddies, trying to get laid, reading, bitching about the weather, and getting drunk. I mean, you know, if you want to be realistic about it =P

    Instant Wizard?

He's always been a Wizard, he's just shy. He keeps his spellcasting powers hidden until Level 2, at which point you can create an encounter where he has to use them to save an NPC or something. Bonus points if wizards are unpopular in your game world. Fantasy is full of this kind of character...

Learning to Love TPKs: A High Risk Variant

So I'm returning to D&D after having played a lot of video games. One thing that strikes me as kind of weird about D&D now that I'm back: The assumption is that the players win every encounter. It kind of takes some of the drama out of the game. So, I want to set up the game so that there's a...

    Balance: Gestalt Characters vs. Non-gestalts

One thing you might do is say Gestalt characters can't multiclass and are limited in their ability to select non-core feats. This is a significant limitation, but more importantly it reduces headaches considerably. I'd also start out the non gestalt characters with a ECL+2 race for free. I...

    Making the Melee Cleric

So, I've heard Clerics can be badass meleeists. That kind of surprises me. How do I go about doing it? What feats do I need, and what spells should I memorize? Thanks in advance! -Alex
