    Hero Forge

My wife had a mini made of a female dwarven fighter with axe and shield. The plastic was translucent and hard to make out the detail until we had it painted. The painter said that the hardest part about the painting was that the weapon and shield were not removable, making blocked off areas hard...

D&D 5E Physical and/or Tactile Gaming Aids, Tips, and Tricks

I thought this was a pretty clever way to make a very flexible GM screen with just office supplies (ring binders and binder clips). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH1zx1Wqd5g

    D&D 5E Driftglobe, what am I missing?

I was thinking of changing it so that the owner can tell it how far back to follow.

    D&D 5E Driftglobe, what am I missing?

Just gave a driftglobe to the players and was reading the details to help explain what it does, but it seemed mostly useless, except for the once a day daylight spell. It reads to me that it follows you 60 feet behind, but a light spell only has a 20 foot radius of bright light and 20 more feet...

D&D 5E Determining the spell on a spell scroll

How does one determine what spell is on a spell scroll? I know it is a level 1 spell from the table result, but not the class or actual spell. Am I missing a table somewhere or is this just supposed to be a GM call?

    Sci Fi RPG: System help?

The real question for this thread is "Would you rather be hit with a sword or shot with an assault rifle in GURPS?" You can devise any number of scenarios where a sword is more deadly than a rifle, but we aren't talking about real life, we are talking about game systems. If someone asked my...

    Sci Fi RPG: System help?

Shadowrun is tightly bound to its setting, including magic. Your post sounded to me like you were looking for a more generic rule set.

    Sci Fi RPG: System help?

Nothing is more likely to kill you than being killed with a sword, but lots of things are more likely to kill you than being hit with a sword. A sword in the hands of an average human does about 1d6 slashing. An assault rifle in the hands of an average human does about 5d6 to 7d6 piercing and...

    Sci Fi RPG: System help?

If you are looking for something more tactical, I would suggest GURPS 4e. Lots of support material, especially if you like PDFs, including a translation of Traveller (in 3e). The biggest danger is that high tech weapons are as deadly as they should be.

What to do when your PC's have just lost the plot

I just had another thought. What system are you using? Does it have any definitions of the character's personalities? Does it have any built in reasons for the players to care what the BBEG even does? Some systems have skills and abilities focused on one thing, killing stuff and taking the loot...

What to do when your PC's have just lost the plot

Maybe you are assuming that your players like investigative campaigns. It seems to me that they don't really have an aptitude and/or a desire. Maybe you should step back and think about what kind of players you have and what kind of campaign style might be more suitable. Maybe they just want the...

    A bad d20

There is an easy way to tell if a die is unbalanced, drop it in a glass of water and see how it rolls. I have seen some old bad dice that practically spin to the favored side before they hit the bottom of the glass. You can watch how they bounce on the bottom and see if any numbers come up...

D&D 3E/3.5 Point me towards an alternate Hit Point system for Pathfinder/D&D3.5

You could use something like the consequences from FATE. It would let them avoid a HP loss to accept a consequence that has long term affects. So for instance, they could "soak" up 20 hp and take a minor consequence, which would give them some combat penalty (like -1 or -2 to hit) and have some...

Looking for generic "GM assistant" software.

I watched their kickstarter video and was very impressed by Realm Works. It is supposed to be released this month. http://www.wolflair.com/index.php?context=realm_works http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/610004753/realm-works-streamlined-rpg-campaign-tools?ref=live

Looking for a non-D&D high fantasy roleplaying system

The systems where I started getting nervous about handing over narrative control was Dungeon World. After some reflection, I discovered what I felt to be the difference between DW and Fate. DW allows consequence and cost free player control of the narrative, but Fate costs at least a little bit...

checking interest in Hero/Champions in Durham NC area

I am interested in setting up a campaign in the near future, Fantasy Hero, Stargate Hero or Champions. I am leaning towards Fantasy Hero, which will probably be fairly high powered. I am fairly flexible with time and location and could play at my house or any of several nearby gaming stores...

Looking for a system: Post apocalyptic low power fantasy

I just saw yesterday that Hero Game has published Post-Apocalyptic Hero. Even if the game system isn't your style, the source book would be a great reference for building a campaign. The PDF is on sale for $14 at herogames.com.

Looking for a non-D&D high fantasy roleplaying system

I think I am going to go with Fantasy Hero. It is a system I am very familiar with and can adapt to fit whatever campaign I like. There is a good bit of support, even though I worry about the company sometimes. Even if they fold though, it won't hurt my game. M&M combats are what scare me away...

Looking for a non-D&D high fantasy roleplaying system

I forgot to mention that. I was recently introduced to 3e and it looks pretty good. The action has an appropriately heroic feel as far as I can tell, but I have only run a couple of short combat playtests.
