    Online Character Builder is LIVE!

While the interface looks clean and nice, I dislike the fact that after each selection I have to wait for up to 10 seconds for the next step in the process to load. I realize in the grand scale of things 10 seconds isn't long, but the offline 'classic' builder seems much quicker at processing...

    Pathfinder 1E A question about Pathfinder's casters.

This is just a quick question. I tend to play 4e for the most part, but was actually intrigued about Pathfinder after seeing the fighter preview. I saw a few things that were quite improved in the preview from raw 3.x system rules, however I'm curious most of all about the magic system. Does...

New player asking for some advice/help, please. 3e vs 4e. Which one is for me?

I'm going to answer the OP as neutrally as I can (I haven't read anyone elses comments, so forgive any repetition). In terms of wide open flexibility, you might want to look into Pathfinder. You sound like you have done your research and are already leaning towards a more 3.x based system, and...

My one criticism of 4th ed: poor artistic style

I have to agree with the OP on several points. Though admittedly they aren't all easy points to 'fix'. On the case of actual layout, fonts, and theme of various books, I think that, indeed, 4e has become a little too sterile. In second edition, you could tell you were reading a Ravenloft...

    I love D&D!

I'm definitely with the OP. I love the game, I love playing. I always will.

    Does 4th edition hinder roleplaying?

I'll admit here I didn't read what was posted in the original poster's link. I've honestly had my fill of 'your doing it wrong' style arguments. Not that they aren't valid, I'm sure, but honestly I've stopped caring about rants/arguments/theories about the new edition. I will, however, answer...

    About Reveille

I have to echo that I'm drained by this, emotionally. All of my friends have been either losing or having the threat of losing their jobs, my own is in question, a couple close friends are dealing with, albeit minor, medical issues of their own. So when I saw the original post, I felt...

"Exceptional Fluff" - the bane of RPGs (ranty)

I'm not impressed with the need to insult authors who think outside the scope of a number-crunching game. I know several authors, none of them are 'idiots' as far as I'm concerned. And in all honesty if I was given the choice between talking with an author or a game designer, I'd be talking...

4E Consequences: Being passive, cautious, or a loner is now unoptimized

Admittedly, yes, you generally do have to be very team oriented in 4e to be successful. You need to work with others' abilities to really make the most of your own. While passive players can achieve success (Unless they're utterly paranoid about being in any kind of harm whatsoever), usually...

With a subscription to DDi Character Builder, buying a PHB2 isn't necessary.

My group and I are all buying a copy of the books as well. There are several reasons that were listed above (art, non-crunch stuff, clarifications about play, etc.) In my case there are two big reasons: Artwork. I love artwork in print. I *still* lament that I can't sit with Dungeon or...

    Tips for expediting 4e Encounters?

If needed, and if you are fighting things that can't or won't surrender (Undead, certain demons, certain mindless beasts), you can always set a certain 'goal' in a battle that if met will quarter the hp of the remaining critters you are fighting. Say you are fighting undead, and the group kills...

digital insider: Monk in PH3, playtest in May

One of my players will be beside himself with glee when the monk is finally released. He has a couple characters that are waiting in the wings for the Monk class (and even a Samurai class, if that will see the light of day). So this is indeed good news.

    Anthropomorphic Animal PCs!

The campaign world I've created and base adventures out of features a few 'critter' type races that are allowed in play. Outside the standard trope of the odd Lizardman, Dragonborn, or 'tauric type character I've got a few races that I've been slowly building histories to over the last... Oh...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

I personally can't wait to read more on this. I enjoyed the last epic PirateCat storyhour and the subsequent discussions and revelations about the behind the scenes of the game itself. I also love the fact that the players put in a great deal of work on their characters. And yes, that...

Pathfinder 1E Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

I'm genuinely confused by the statement, actually. Please note that I'm not actually attacking its validity because I'm honestly trying to work out what it means. Does she mean that after 4e was announced that they were disappointed that there was no more 3e (or at least, waning) coverage? Or...

    Scanned any of your dungeons?

All colour was done in painter. I just drew it out before hand with my trusty mechanical pencils on card stock.. ..I'm terribly lazy when it comes to inking anything, so I tend to just scan pencils and go from there ;)

    4E is unacceptable

I defy anyone to convince my group and myself that 4e is unacceptable. Then again I've stopped giving credence to 'internet rage' a long, long time ago.

    Scanned any of your dungeons?

The overland map was just pencils that were scanned, cleaned up, and then coloured in Painter 9. I couldn't find an old parchment texture that I really liked, so I did a really simple one using watercolour brushes in Painter and then doing a transparent colouring of the rest of the map over...

    Scanned any of your dungeons?

Guh. The site ate my frist post, so I'll be brief. Noth'Moren One of two northern continents in my world. Druid Warrens Largely bypassed druid warrens. I still liked the map enough to save it though.
