Also remember that the monk can have all sorts of enhancements on his weapons, and monk fists are blugening. There are times when a weapon would be more useful.

The text simply states that when a monk attacks they can use a monk weapon they are holding or use an unarmed attack.

Mort, sorry for being sarcastic, but you argued that a monk would be able to use his unarmed damage while using weapons. I have to admit, you're right to a certain extent but your answer might have been misinterpreted. Sure, a monk with several attacks can attack let's say at lvl11 twice with his kama and twice with foot and headbutt for all his 4 attacks.

But the question was: Can a monk use his unarmed attack damage with a weapon? E.g. attacking with his kama +4 but with 2d10+ X (strength) +4 damage for a high level monk.

The answer is no.
