@the Jester I was just being silly with as much overt sarcasm as I could muster, mate :p

Here's a hint: When dealing with edition-warriors, *avoid* sarcasm. People mistake what you're being sarcastic about, and report you for being rude and jerkish.

Sarcasm seems all cool and stuff, until you realize that at its heart it is about being mean. Then, it becomes rather obvious that it is mostly a waste of time and energy.

Would you have preferred David Niven from the first Casino Royale movie? Or Sean Connery from Never Say Never Again? Both would be, officially, James Bonds yet both exist outside the development stream that houses the rest of the Bond movies and have a different character.

If that's what you're going for, I'd make 4e Daniel Craig in that case. A reboot in the same style as some Bonds and not others but still part of the franchise.

As it is, this is blatant edition warring.

Hmm, I think if I were to have done that picture, I'd probably have Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible) in Austin Power's place, put Timothy Dalton in at 3.0 and bump Brosnon and Craig over one each - though in some ways Bourne is fitting for Pathfinder.

And where is B/X - BECMI?

Right? Sarcasm sucks. Especially people like George Carlan are just not funny.

Manbearcat Hey, you rude jerk, that's my favorite edition you're razzing! ;) Btw, thanks for the copious feedback you provided in my 4e Dragon Mountain conversion.

I share Stormonu 's sentiment: what about B/X D&D?

Seems pretty edition-warish to me. Also, baffling, as I don't think its particularly accurate or funny. That is, there's nothing about Pathfinder that I find particularly more Bourne-ish than 3e, its close kin.

So yeah, just No.

Personally, I just equate it to Bourne="Popular spy movie, but not a Bond film" as "Pathfinder is a popular d20 variant, but not D&D"

I guess with all things, if you gotta explain the joke, it ain't that funny. :)

I've commented on this picture before, so here we go again:

Daniel Craig is the perfect 4e D&D analogy. He was hated sight-unseen by many for not "looking" like Bond (he was called "James Blonde" at some point), his movies were criticized for not having the old school charm and mannerisms associated with Bond, and was deemed too "combat-centered". Over time, more and more Bond elements returned in Skyfall (compare to D&D Essentials), to the point where the next Bond movie will have everything in place (D&D Next?).

Pathfinder is Jason Bourne. Hackmaster is Austin Powers.
