Very Edition War-y.

Also, how are 3.0 and 3.5 Brosnan and Craig? Are 3.0 and 3.5 that different?

Also, it's said the darker and grittier Bond (played by Craig) was inspired by Bourne, but this has it the other way.

Also, Austin Powers should clearly be Hackmaster.

No, not a good metaphor at all. 3/10.

Would you have preferred David Niven from the first Casino Royale movie? Or Sean Connery from Never Say Never Again? Both would be, officially, James Bonds yet both exist outside the development stream that houses the rest of the Bond movies and have a different character.

If I had to stick to one of the traditional Bonds for 4e, I'd be more inclined to go with Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan. I think both tenures are marked by more by one-use gadgets and far-out stunts that resonate with 4e's chopsocky, Kung Fu Pandaesque, demo-each-move-once-in-a-fight combat maneuvering.

I don't see what is Edition-War-y about this. 1e - 3.5/PF are sheik, suave, attractive action heroes who save the day through their awesomeness while 4e is an ugly, bumbling, idiot caricature of the classic action hero who is saved not by his own ingenuity and awesomeness but by silly meta-plot and his sidekick. I just channeled Thomas Paine from the other side and he affirmed that he was not a revolutionary and was actually a Tory triple agent. Can you believe it? Awesome stuff.

In other news, I don't care about this either way. Kinda Edition War-y is just amusing. I wish we had a sub-forum that was a repository for all TOTALLY NOT EDITION WAR-Y OK hit piece threads on 4e. We could aggregate them all and have a rating system on their TOTALLY NOT EDITION WAR-Y ness or something and crown a winner. And then we could have roast Dragonborn at the celebration feast.

You just explained it eloquently, albeit kind of disingenuously.

I don't think you get the whole idea of not edition war-y.
