Dorn smiles.

"You've already proven your worth twice today, Jax. I only hope the rest of us can keep up!"

Dorn gets to work, helping Jax pull at the bars.

Brenn took his time making a careful search of the accessible parts of the cell block. Working methodically, he checked wherever he could- he wanted to make sure there were no more threats (or other victims).

After a while though, he moved back to join the others- whatever there was to find, Jax had apparently already found.

Sir Exsixten quickly walks over to where Jax is and pushes past the kobold as soon as the work is almost done.

AS PROMISED, SIR EXSIXTEN HAS FOUND THE WAY OUT. THIS WAY CITIZENS! he says, pushing his way out the window.

Finding the exact spot, Jax uses his new-found berserker strength and rips the rusty bars off the windows one by one. One at a time the party squeezes through the window, with Sir ExSixTen leading the way.

You find yourselves on an alleyway. Night has fallen and a thin mist settles around the area. Not thick and profane feeling like the one you traveled through to be transported to this domain, but natural in origin. Despite this, you can help but shutter as the freezing moister comes in contact with your skin.

You soon become aware of some motion in an alley nearby. You can hear a soft conversation between a man and woman. From where you are you cannot see either of them or make out what they are saying, but the woman's voice nearly charms you with its beauty. Soon the conversation ends as mysteriously as it began.

From across the alley a slender young woman steps from a gap between two buildings and begins cautiously walking down the your alleyway. She wears a hooded cloak that she keeps pulled up to hide her face. She seems frightened, for she constantly looks behind her. There is no sign of the other individual.

Suddenly, from out of the darkness, a harsh voice breaks the silence of the night. You have defied me for the last time, Akriel! it snaps. The tone is so ominous and the voice so cruel that the hair on the back of your necks stands up. Evil seems to drift like fog into the alley and wash against you like the stagnant water of a forgotten swamp.

Slowly, a man flanked by several pony-sized wolves steps into view. There is a gleam in his eye akin to hunger and the wolves begin to leer at the beautiful young woman. As he steps between your vantage point and the girl, you see him raise a cruel looking whip over his head.

The girl cries for mercy. The dark man releases a stream of hissing words at Akriel in response. Although the majority of it is lost under her sobs and protests, the words "change" and "vampire" are discernible.

"Well, now, that just ain't no way t'treat a lady," Quagmire rumbles. "Just set that whip aside, bub, and we can talk this over like gentlefolk. Otherwise, I'd have t'conclude that ye be on the wrong side o' what's right, here. An' that'd be just a shame." He doesn't sound like he'd be particularly upset by this.

Although Dorn, in contrast to Quagmire, might be slightly upset at the prospect of hostilities, he nonetheless steps behind the hobgoblin and draws his daggers, attempting to look tough.

A MAIDEN IN DISTRESS! PERFECT! Sir Exsixten shouts, running ahead of the group to interpose himself between the man and the young woman.

BEHOLD, THE CHAMPION OF THE ORDER OF THE RED PLUS HAS ARRIVED. THINE EVIL MACHINATIONS HAVE MET THEIR MATCH IN THIS MACHINE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. TAKE YOUR DIRE PUPPIES AND SCURRY HOME!

Sir Exsixten leans closer to the man and speaks in his "soft voice". ACTUALLY, PLEASE DON'T GO, IT'S MUCH MORE DRAMATIC IF WE FIGHT OVER HER. IF YOU DO HAVE TO GO, AT LEAST COME UP WITH AN APPROPRIATE MONOLOGUE AND SWEAR THE USUAL UNFORTUNATE CONSEQUENCE WHEN WE MEET AGAIN.

Jax remains at the back of the party while the confrontation initiates. It's really not his business after all. Vampires and wolves assault young maidens all the time! Now if she were rich, or maybe if the man had any money on him... wait, could he?
Jax peers at the ominous man as Sir Exsixten inserts himself into the encounter, trying to determine if he has anything worth robbing.

You are not worth my time the man growls to Sir ExSixTen.

I'll deal with you later he says to the young women, Akriel, before motioning to the huge wolves and moving away to the shadows of a nearby alley so fast that Sir ExSixTen is unable to react in time.

With the man's command, the giant wolves charge forward and attack the party!

Thanks to Quagmire's general alertness, Dorn is just quick enough to beat the wolves to the punch (Initiative 27 - I assume player wins on a tie). He conjures a ring of ice directly over the wolves, and it crashes down over their heads, slowing three of them and sending one to the floor (Ice Dragon's teeth crits alpha, hits dire wolf 1, hits dire wolf 2. All 3 are slowed TENT Dorn. Dire wolf 1 and dire wolf 2 each take 21 cold damage and 8 untyped furious assault damage. Alpha takes max 29 cold damage and 8 untyped furious assault damage. Alpha is knocked prone from class feature. Alpha takes additional 12 crit damage). With a flick of Dorn's wrist, the fragments of arcane ice lying on the ground form into swords, slashing into the wolves with great ferocity. (AP - Ice Javelins hits Alpha for 18 cold damage, and he takes ongoing 5 cold damage (save ends). It misses dire wolf 2 and 3, who take half damage (8 each, as it happens)).

[sblock=Damage summary]
Dire wolf 1 - 21 cold damage, 8 untyped = 29 total
Dire wolf 2 - 29 cold damage, 8 untyped = 37 total
Dire wolf 3 - 8 cold damage = 8 total
Alpha - 47 cold damage, 20 untyped = 67 total + ongoing 5 cold (save ends)
