[sblock=ooc]Ok then... so one vote for a multicourse test meal... which could take place later back at Fulcrum, or Newhill, I suppose. If the group decides to do it, that is. (Or did you want to do it here for some reason? Again, only important if the group agrees. :))

Two votes for - just escorting Castofle to the market, letting him look for ingredients, then leaving? Would that be Azryah's and Kaeysari's immediate plan?

You say you don't want to look for or talk to the other chef, which is understandable... I will point out that it might be possible to find out more about him and what he is up to without actually confronting him face-to-face. You might want to review what Castofle said here to see why it might be relevant.

But it's your choice. Investigation would not be completely without risk; even if you are avoiding Balsamae himself, he (or others) might hear about your activities. If you just want to get done here as quickly as possible then split, that's ok.

Finally - haven't heard from Chaku or Jynxx. I'll give them a little more time to chime in... if they don't have other ideas, we'll just go ahead with "shop and go". :)[/sblock]

[sblock=multicourse test meal]The idea was to do it here. We make up some zocalti, drink it as an accompaniment to a variety of Kingdom of Jade-style dishes, and see whether anything surprises us by working particularly well. But if nobody else wants to do that I'm not married to the notion.

And I do think it might be worthwhile to find out what Balsamae's up to, but I don't think Papolstaanas would propose it.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Fair enough on Papol not proposing it... for that matter, it wouldn't hurt to have some in-character discussion of the plan as well as ooc...[/sblock]

Chaku walks behind the group, his eyes glazed over, following wherever they go.

[sblock=OOC]So yeah, Chaku has no opinion one way or the other, since truth be told, I forgot why we were coming here in the first place, and if I can't remember things, Chaku definately wouldn't.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]:( Sorry, I know the pace has been slow for a while. I'll try to pick things up.

We're just about in the home stretch![/sblock]

ooc: Ok, proceeding with the "shop and run" plan... no need for a skill challenge at this point then.

Castofle eagerly leads the group towards the nearest market square. "I've really been wanting to check this out!" he says. Jaronel follows in his wake, gawking at the buildings and townspeople. He seems particularly entranced by the tieflings.

The market turns out to be a bit disappointing. It's not exactly bustling, and of the foodstuffs on display, many are actually of Dauntonian or Bonite origin - imports, rather than exports. But there are a couple of vendors with a selection of Jadite fruits. Castofle takes his time checking them out, talking with the vendors and sampling each variety. After about a half an hour he has purchased three small bags of fruits, including a large, black-skinned variety, a small one with red skin covered in fine green hairs covering soft, onion-like white flesh, and two exotic varieties of peaches.

One of the vendors mentions a spice shop in town. "That sounds promising!" the chef says. "I've heard about a spice that comes from tree bark found in the Kingdom of Jade - like cassia, but supposed to be more delicate. That could work really well with the zocalti, if they have it!" The vendor gives directions to a building just off the other market square.

The group wends its way through the streets heading for the shop. Unexpectedly, a voice calls out from behind. "Papolstaanas? Papolstaanas? Is that you?" Standing in a dark, open doorway of a tavern that the group had just passed is another kobold. She wears a snug, dark leather bodysuit, a rather jaunty cap, and a pair of daggers in belt sheathes. A bright gold ring pierces one nostril, and baubles glitter at her throat. Her brightly painted, sharp claw-nails beat a rhythm against the frame of the doorway.

"It is you! From what Growald said, it sounded like you, but - I couldn't believe Mother would..." She laughs merrily. "You're so dirty! She'd throw a fit if she saw you!"

[sblock=Papolstaanas]It's your sister, Kanneelas![/sblock]

Chaku’s head swivels as the kobold flags down the young warden in his company. Looking her over, he seems intrigued by the body suit, and completely misses the “Mother” comment. Leaning over near Papol’s ear, he whispers in is rumbling bass, You sly devil you, you did not say you had girlfriend in these parts! Is she cute in kobold standards? Eh, It does not matter, go, play, have fun, we’ll fetch you when we are ready to leave. The massive barbarian presses his meaty hand against Papolstaanas’ back and gently, yet forcefully pushes him forward.

As the group heads off to the marketplace, Papolstaanas chatters cheerfully about the food prospects. "I've heard that the food in the Kingdom of Jade is so interesting!--Wouldn't it be great to have a really big meal, and maybe we could make some zocalti and have that too, and you never know what might... But maybe there's not enough time... Say, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of food business, does there? I mean, I've seen a lot of this kind of thing in Daunton. Do you suppose there are any, I don't know, authentic Kingdom of Jade chefs around?--"

He walks right past the female kobold without noticing her until she calls him, then whirls around at her voice and is immediately mortified by Chaku's comment. "What--you can't be--that isn't--I mean, sh-sh-she's not my--I would never--you can't think that--" He looks back and forth between his huge companion and the other kobold desperately several times before a thought settles itself between his ears and calms him somewhat. "I mean, er, yes, um, thanks, thats, um, very good of you..." he mumbles to Chaku. "I'll, um, catch, catch up, later I mean, because I have to, um, you know, with my, with my, with this, um, well..." Still flustered, he follows the other kobold into the tavern.

* * *

"What are you doing here?" Papolstaanas hisses to Kanneelas in Draconic once inside the tavern. "I thought you were back on Bacarte! Are you working for that--look, never mind, I'm actually sort of busy. And since when do you care what Mother thinks?"

[sblock=Mezegis]You are a bad bad person. :p[/sblock]

Kaeysari, having stopped briefly to adjust her armor, trundles up beside Chaku. "What's that all about?" she asks as Papolstaanas heads into the tavern.

Sorry for going awol... RL happens

Jynxx slaps his kobold companion on the back harder than he had intended to. "She's a beauty my friend. Have fun." Jynxx smirks and offers a sly wink as he turns to walk away. He could easily tell by the flustered body language of Palp that she was not his girlfriend. Odds were in favor of it being his sister, or a relative of some sort. Maybe a member of his tribe. [sblock=telepathy to my startled kobold companion] "If you need us, we will not be far."[/sblock]
