"This, ah, building is older than Rilthorne. I'd say 80 years old at least. Perhaps he, ah, had a paranoid father?"

Morulas nods his assent.
'Maybe the Wizard isn't to fault for the accident after all. He might have unleased something hidden in this tower that he wasn't aware of. Or he might have experimented with forces he himself barely understood.'

Eyeing Rodimus wounds, the elf non the less frowns with concern.
'Either way, it seems we must get to the source of it all if, we are to solve this mystery and the dangers we will likely face seem grow with every step we take.'

(Yep, that way.
Except that specific Knowledge can't be used untrained. ;))

That's almost completely correct. There is a small exception:

Untrained: An untrained Knowledge check is simply an Intelligence check. Without actual training, you know only common knowledge (DC 10 or lower).

Thank you for the explanation!

Persephone

"Perhaps going on isn't such a good idea. Does you wand have many more charges, Sir Ismael? We have two party members down, and I'm almost out of spells. Perhaps we could rest here a bit." She glances around for sofas or anything.

Examining the patterns, she swallows, then reaches out to touch a black square. Then a colored one if no damage is sustained. Can they be moved? Is there anything else in the room that might be related to these patterns?

Ishmael followed Persephone's commands. He holstered Violet, took out the wand of healing then administered one charge to Fant, one to Gorefoot and another to Rodimus.

Persephone hesitantly reaches out and touches a black square, which she finds harmless. Enboldened, she does the same with a red square. As her finger is about to touch it, she quickly draws back as a small blast of flame sears out. Due to her quick reflexes, she takes only 2 points of damage.

Ishmael heals Fant for 7 points (she is no longer staggered.) Gorefoot and Rodimus are healed for 6 each. Rodimus regains conciousness.

Persephone believes, based on her examination of the device, that it is related to the wall of fire and ice in some way. The squares do seem to be mobile.

"Fant!" She shouts. "I've only got one spell left! Should I use it now?"

Fant turns her head to answer, which turns out to be a poor idea. The first blow catches her on her left-hand side, with her shield saving her from being crushed, and the second straight-on attack sends her stumbling backwards.

Ow. Fant lies still, not daring to move. Several things are broken, and she doesn't want anything rubbing against anthing else. In an oddly detached way, Fant begins considering Persephone's question in the larger context of Arcane magic and its limits in warfare. Although such magics as fireball can be used to deadly effect in combat, the limited energies employed by sorcerers and especially by wizards make their inclusion in a force expensive as wands must be employed in order for-

Positive energy flows through her, mending broken bones, healing bruises and closing wounds. She notes that many of the same limitations apply to divine magic in warfare as arcane.

"Thank you," she says, bringing herself carefully to her feet. She immediately sets about analyzing the remaining resources. "Ishmael, how many more times can that wand be used?"

ooc: Those of us who are wounded, how many hit points do each have?
