Rhun, you still interested in going down the twins/siblings path? I think it would be kind of freaky having identical twins. Especially psi ones, although I don't think that they would let on about the psi stuff. It would be all hunches and intuition. Perhaps thats all they see it as anyways, given its not always reliable.

I think I'm going to skip out on the sibling idea. I went a slightly different way with the PC I am building. As far as the psi goes, it just really doesn't fit well into a Firefly game (with the exception of one young and very unstable girl). Especially coming from a border world, where they are a might like to burn you as a witch.

No problem. I like the idea of psi-twins, but it doesn't really hold the same appeal for a stand alone character. So I'll go with Helsinki pretty much as she stands. As Watus indicated, it requires a fairly dedicated character given the requirements.

If you're still accepting, I'd like to posit a character, iff'n that's shiny with you. Name's Larson Carruthers and I jes' happen to be the best durn scrounger you ever saw. If it's out there, I ken find it and if it's not out there, I ken find it anyway... for a price. I ken handle myself a weapon, as well, though I'm certain not as good as some others I might name.

OOC: I'm thinking a Charismatic Hero 4/Negoiator 2. Let me know if I shine.

Description: Larson Carruthers is not a handsome man; his face has been subject to far too many violent moments and his nose is a bit skewed to one side. What he’s got is an infectious smile. People just seem to like him no matter who sort of hogwash he’s selling. When he thinks danger is threatenin’, he carries a shotgun and straps an old, well-oiled long rifle on his back. After all, honest fights are all well and good, but Larson prefers his enemies to be far away. Tied up. With a big ol’ target painted on their chest. Outside an airlock.

History
Larson was born on Saint Albans, a dusty son of a dusty man. More to come.

Wow those are some very good rolls, however Watus did post something regarding re-rolling abilities :heh:

Watus:
I had almost completed a Cha 3 / Telepath 3 character, but I you've made a decision regarding Psi, I'll rework my character concept accordingly.

Watus:

I'm including an alternate build of Ghost which I feel fits the concept better: Tough 4/Strong 2. More brawly, with skills and feats focusing on the core concept instead of trying to shoehorn itself into Daredevil (which, as I said before, didn't really fit):

Alright, here is my character...I've still got a little playing around to do, I think, and I would like to flesh out his background and the like a bit more.

Patrick “Win” Winslow

Patrick Winslow, or simply “Win” as he is called by companions, hails from Dyton Colony, a son of a fairly prominent landowner. Although his family had more money than most, Patrick never cared much for a life of finery. Adventure and excitement, that was the thing. Patrick learned to fight and shoot, getting in more than his fair share of trouble as a youngster. When the Unification War started, he volunteered immediately, and fought for the Independents until the war's end. Since the end of the war, Win has wondered the ‘Verse, keeping mostly to the Rim and Border worlds, making a living at what jobs he can get. Between his travels and service with the Browncoats, he has picked up a hodgepodge of skills that have given him some success in finding work.

Win is a broad-shouldered, muscular man standing just over six feet in height. He wears his brown hair cropped close in the military style, and often sports a very fine goatee. While he might otherwise be a handsome man, Win bears a fierce looking scar that runs from his forehead, across the right eye and down his cheek. If asked about it, he states simply that it was a souvenir from the war. He dresses in simple, practical garb, and is seemingly never without a gun.

Win is a good man, and tries to do the right thing, though life in the Black sometimes makes that difficult. He's no low-down, dirty deceiver, and in fact, has a hard time with telling lies. Because of the work he does and the type of folk he deals with, he usually chooses to say nothing at all. Give him a few drinks, though, and it is hard to shut him up.

Here's an update for Mel, our intrepid pilot. No psi. It seemed out of place for the setting, and the character is a little better, conceptually, without it I think. Some basic combat skillz, and one -hell- of a good pilot. That's the ticket.

The skeleton background from my first post is developing nicely, and I'll update it as soon as I have the wrinkles ironed out. Looks like this thing is coming together! Yay!

As I read the Profession skill in d20 Modern, you are correct. The changes made for this setting don't really impact that, so... It does seem strange to me, and I'll leave myself the option of allowing some occassional synergy bonuses, but it does look as though Profession is solely related to Wealth.

As for the difference between Craft and Repair, that's tricky... As the skills are written, it appears that although you could craft a device, if it were to break you wouldn't be able to fix it. That's obviously silly. However, I don't want to weaken the Repair skill either. I would probably rule that if you had a Craft skill, but lacked Repair, that you could use the craft skill to repair items that you yourself had made, but with a -4 penalty on the check. When attempting to repair items you did not create, but which are of the type that you could create, you could use the Repair skill untrained with a -4 penalty on the check. The synergy bonus (if any) would apply.

I think that make sense both logically and mechanically. If anyone disagrees, please speak up.

stonegod:
Don't worry too much about the HP at this point. Once the final crew is selected, if the local brawler has a glass jaw because his dice betrayed him, I'll consider throwing some options out to the table and putting things to a vote.

Rhun:
I suspect I know already know the answer to this question, but it isn't explicity clear in the description: when Win volunteered, did he voluneteer for the Independents or the Alliance?

I'm happy with that. There are always going to be somewhat arbitrary line between closely related skills. I like the idea of helsinki being a bit of a tinkerer, so Craft seems more appropriate than Repair. I'm tinking perhaps a scratch built motorbike, perhaps some armour, that sort of thing. How far down the road she is with the projects, if at all, I'll leave up to you. It kind of depends on how things are set up as well.

I'll get on to the final bits and pieces.

Thanks for the heads up. I think Ghost is pretty much done except for equipment.

My bad on that one, but it would have to be the Browncoats. Win ain't no stinkin' purplebelly!

I'll update the background to reflect that.
