I know you're not keen on multiclassing, but... At some point an exotic weapon proficiency - bastard sword or waraxe, a level in exotic weapon master (complete warrior) and the 2 hands as 1 trick. If you use a 1 handed exotic weapon in 2 hands you can apply strength X2 to the damage instead of strength *1.5. Seems a worthwhile way to spend a feat.
For this trick I'd look for a twohanded exotic weapon with increased threat range (similar to falchion).

I think it has to be weildable in 1 hand for the trick to apply.

The only one I can think of with a bigger range than a falchion was the bladed gauntlet from Sword and Fist. IIRC, that was 16-20 crit? Not sure how you'd use it two handed though.

Monkey gripped mercurial greatsword?

Or I'm sure someone must have made a mercurial katana by now. :)
Gives you +30 to hit, move silently, hide and having huge eyes.
Damage 10D8+60
Critical 10+ Instant death
Cuts through trucks.

feats:-
power attack
improved critical:- mercurial greatsword
power critical:- mercurial greatsword
exotic prof:- mercurial greatsword
weapon focus:- mercurial greatsword

go for a +3 admantine mercurial greatsword (2d6, 20x4 crit)
other items are
+4 mithril fullplate
+4 belt of strength
+2 cloak of resistance
boots of striding and springing.

this build just screams dwarf at me, but anyway.

Str 18
Dex 16
Con 16
Int 8
Wis 8
Cha 8

so yeah, average damage when raging is 23, when not drop 3.
on a crit, average damage is 92, or 80 if not raging.

its a fairly standard build i've used a few times.

if the DM won't allow for a mercurial greatsword, go for a scythe. having two damage dice is better than one, it allows for a better average, and what you're going for is a damage dealer, and a consistant one.

another possible weapon to use is a maul, which can be used with one hand with the exotic proficiency, and allows you to use a shield with a 1d10 x3 crit.
makes you more defensive, and definitely can't hurt.

either way, you should be fine.

Dont forget potions of enlarge person or a ring of spell storing with some interesting spells in it (possibly with some metamagic so that it lasts longer).

I'd rather multiclass with one level cleric (strength/luck or travel domain). You'll get some nice spells, a will save boost and Enlarge Person as domain spell.

That gives a hit in BAB and barb class abilities though.. not sure if the spells are worth it at that point.. Especially when a simple 18k item can duplicate most of the spells (given someone is there to put the spells into the item of course ;) )

I know you can only buy magic items from DMG but
see the retributive amulet from BofED are amazing, a really must have item for any character.
grants +2 sacredAC, halfs the damage you have sustained and return the other half to your enemy and only for 56000 gps

Well, ok... depends how you imagine the character, of course. In the case of multiclassing, 3 levels cleric would probably be best though.

Good old question of raw specialist power vs. a little bit versatility. The cleric multiclass needs preparation (well, depends... Divine Might ;)?) time, the barbarian always bashes.

Hmm. Point buy says no to multiclassing :D

If your allowed prestige class consider taking 1 level in sorcerer and then switching to dragon disciple - as someone mentioned the truestrike can be pretty nasty when its needed and the dragon disciple provides you with a huge increase to strength once maxed (+8) as well as natural armor, con bonus and wings! you lose 2 points of base attack but gain that back with the increase in strength. If experience penalty isnt a problem for you consider doing this with a half-orc or wood elf for an additional +2 str and you can soon see your strength reaching 30 before magic.

Personal preference for damage myself i prefer the Halberd - using the improved trip feat you can use your attack to trip the opponent (as a melee touch attack) giving you a +4 (for being prone) to the followup attack which you can convert directly to power attack for more damage as well as giving you an attack of opportunity when/if they try and stand up :)
