"I'm Lookspring, slayer of undead and hydras! Hero of the savage island! I've sailed the endless ocean to the edge of the world and back."

A black Katara sitting at the bar whistle in an impressed manner. Sitting above a laying dog he pipes up. Hello Lookspring! I am Mearran Longtail. That is an amazing story you must have, care to tell it?

Lookspring stares at the other Katara with a mixture of surprise and suspicion written on his face. He wonders for a moment if this is one of his kin come to drag him back to his village. The moment of suspicion passes as his desire to boast of his deeds comes to the fore. He takes a drink from his cup to wet his throat before launching into the lengthly tale.

"It all started when we rescued this sailor from his former shipmates. He knew the location of an island that no other ships visited, but was rich with treasures. He was too chatty though, so his crew tried to shut him up permenantly. We managed to get him back to our employer and they struck a deal. He would lead us to the island in exchange for a share of the trade earnings. The trip was dangerous. Sea monsters crept aboard at night and we had to fight the slimy, clawed beasts and drive them away. Our troubles were only beginning however. At the island we met a savage tribe of humans. They refused to trade with us unless we helped bring them water. Hordes of undead were crawling up out of their well, the only source of fresh water for miles. Phoenix and I camped out around the well, waiting for the dead to rise up. At midnight, they came for us. They scrambled up out of the well in endless waves. My arrows were of little use against the skeletons, so when one was struck down I grabbed its leg bone and used it as a club to smash the rest to pieces.

Once the way was clear, Phoenix led the way down into the dark well. Deep inside we followed a trickle of water through dark, dank tunnels until we found it. Someone had constructed a huge dam in a chamber to block the flow of water. Arrows started raining down on us as these, things, these dwarves, appeared at the top. Together we slaughtered them all and recovered their treasure. They had been mining gold nuggets from the walls of the tunnels, which is why they stopped the water from flowing. We took their treasures back to the surface and then Phoenix went back to destroy the dam. She cut through the supports with her mind and then fled back to the well in front of a towering wall of water. We barely got her out in time.

The villagers held a feast in our honor. We were like conquering heroes to them. Succulent meats, breads, and some kind of beer they brewed from bananas or something. The very next day we were invited to hunt the fearsome beasts of the island with their finest hunters. We had only been hunting for a few hours when a gigantic bear crashed out of the forest and attacked us. We killed it, but then the beast that put the bear to flight emerged from the forest. 5 hissing and intertwining heads atop a scaly body tore through the canopy as the beast approached. The fearsome hydra fought like a devil and killed some of the hunters, and would have killed all of them if Phoenix and I hadn't defeated the beast. The carcass was taken back the village and roasted for a second feast. Along the way I picked up this prize from a wolf pack that foolishly attacked us."
He pauses to rub the wolf head he now wears as a cap.
"The savages showered us with gold and pearls for our efforts. The village shaman later approached us with a scroll we had taken from the dwarves. It was written by something called a Yuan-ti. I don't know what those are, and I don't care. The shaman brought huge chests filled with gold coins as a reward if we return and save their village once more. So here we are, looking for more hale and hearty adventurers able to hold their own in a fight. We're going to have a lot of killing on our hands once we return, but we'll bathe in gold and pearls afterwards!

"Obliging villagers. Gold and pearls. Payment up front. Talking cats, and a pretty lady." Rowan smiles at Phoenix, showing his even white teeth. "What more could I want?"

His eyes wander across the empty room. "We've really missed the boat on adventurers, I'm afraid. This place was packed when I fell asleep. Someone must have spilled a chest of gold or opened a free keg of beer out there. Still. That's more for us, eh? I'll tell you, I've been sitting around this room for entirely too long. Let's head on out. I've got a library card, though. Looking up Yuan-Ti's is probably a good idea. I've never heard of them either."
"Well then, it looks like we have three at least." Phoenix says to Rowan with just a hint of blushing in her cheeks from his 'pretty lady' comment. "Nice story, Lookspring. You should study as a bard or something." She says with no hint of sarcasm. "How about this: Lookspring, you hang around here for a bit and if anybody else shows up that looks tough enough to join us, see if they're available and interested. I'm gonna go with Rowan here over to the library and do some research on these 'Yuan-Ti' to see what we can find out about them. We'll come back here after that and see if anybody else has joined yet before deciding how much longer we can wait. Ready to go, Rowan?" she asks the warrior. Once he is ready, she stands and walks out the door of the Inn with him on the way to the library.

OOC: Manzanita, I'm gonna go over to the 'Rich Beyond Dreams' thread to post to BigB that we're looking for info in the library. If you want to post there for as well for our conversations, go for it.

"Sounds good. Let me just gather my things. I've got a couple books I need to return before I leave town anyway." says Rowan. He goes back to his table and picks up two large tombs, then escorts Phoenix to the door. As they leave, he says, "So what's it like to adventure with a talking cat? I've never seen one of those before."

O, It's quite amusing. Says a talking catfolk. My parents had a talking panther, it only spoke Dwarven so we never knew what it was trying to say, but I digress. Mearran sighs.

It was a good tale Lookspring. You must have the heart of an adventurer.

Lookspring grins and says "I do have the heart of an adventurer... in a jar next to my other trophies. I just go where the wind, and the money, take me. It is nice to be back in a city with real beds instead of sleeping in the dirt with the savages, but the city is so boring compared to the trackless jungle and horrid monsters of the island. I cannot wait to return there to be honest.

A human, obviously a captain of the city guard, enters and speaks with Joe a moment and then turns to the 2 Katara. The adventurer named Lookspring has been summoned to the city court. A matter of the merchants guild. I require him to accompany me to the court. I trust I will have no trouble in this. The guard captain makes no threatening moves toward Lookspring but does not backdown either.

A human in the corner, whom has remained quiet until now, stands and moves toward the door. I have definately seen it all now, talking cat people being summoned to court! Well cat people I leave to your business, I think I shall see what is happening at this big celebration. Khairi exits the RDI without another thought of the cat and the court.

Lookspring tenses when the guard calls his name. His eyes narrow for a moment. Abruptly, he remembers the sailors and the trial they were supposed to be undergoing. He hops down from his chair and approaches the captain. "I am Lookspring. Let's get this over with. Hopefully those sailors will get locked up for their crimes." He follows the guards out the door.

OOC - For some reason I had the urge to shout "You'll never take me alive!" and make a run for it =P
