Lookspring stares at the other Katara with a mixture of surprise and suspicion written on his face. He wonders for a moment if this is one of his kin come to drag him back to his village. The moment of suspicion passes as his desire to boast of his deeds comes to the fore. He takes a drink from his cup to wet his throat before launching into the lengthly tale.
"It all started when we rescued this sailor from his former shipmates. He knew the location of an island that no other ships visited, but was rich with treasures. He was too chatty though, so his crew tried to shut him up permenantly. We managed to get him back to our employer and they struck a deal. He would lead us to the island in exchange for a share of the trade earnings. The trip was dangerous. Sea monsters crept aboard at night and we had to fight the slimy, clawed beasts and drive them away. Our troubles were only beginning however. At the island we met a savage tribe of humans. They refused to trade with us unless we helped bring them water. Hordes of undead were crawling up out of their well, the only source of fresh water for miles. Phoenix and I camped out around the well, waiting for the dead to rise up. At midnight, they came for us. They scrambled up out of the well in endless waves. My arrows were of little use against the skeletons, so when one was struck down I grabbed its leg bone and used it as a club to smash the rest to pieces.
Once the way was clear, Phoenix led the way down into the dark well. Deep inside we followed a trickle of water through dark, dank tunnels until we found it. Someone had constructed a huge dam in a chamber to block the flow of water. Arrows started raining down on us as these, things, these dwarves, appeared at the top. Together we slaughtered them all and recovered their treasure. They had been mining gold nuggets from the walls of the tunnels, which is why they stopped the water from flowing. We took their treasures back to the surface and then Phoenix went back to destroy the dam. She cut through the supports with her mind and then fled back to the well in front of a towering wall of water. We barely got her out in time.
The villagers held a feast in our honor. We were like conquering heroes to them. Succulent meats, breads, and some kind of beer they brewed from bananas or something. The very next day we were invited to hunt the fearsome beasts of the island with their finest hunters. We had only been hunting for a few hours when a gigantic bear crashed out of the forest and attacked us. We killed it, but then the beast that put the bear to flight emerged from the forest. 5 hissing and intertwining heads atop a scaly body tore through the canopy as the beast approached. The fearsome hydra fought like a devil and killed some of the hunters, and would have killed all of them if Phoenix and I hadn't defeated the beast. The carcass was taken back the village and roasted for a second feast. Along the way I picked up this prize from a wolf pack that foolishly attacked us." He pauses to rub the wolf head he now wears as a cap.
"The savages showered us with gold and pearls for our efforts. The village shaman later approached us with a scroll we had taken from the dwarves. It was written by something called a Yuan-ti. I don't know what those are, and I don't care. The shaman brought huge chests filled with gold coins as a reward if we return and save their village once more. So here we are, looking for more hale and hearty adventurers able to hold their own in a fight. We're going to have a lot of killing on our hands once we return, but we'll bathe in gold and pearls afterwards!
