I might also suggest Arcana's Le Serpent Rouge album. Excellent desert-themed, dark, moody stuff.

Also the Eternal Darkness OST has some usable stuff.

I also think that Intronaut's Prehistoricisms and Valley of Smoke albums offer some primal-themed goodness, heavy to the fretless electric bass, though they may be a little heavy at times.

And seconding Azam Ali, her album as Niyaz is pretty good.

Totally flying blind, but I'd try the soundtracks from any of the Road Warrior movies, The Blood of Heroes, and No Escape.

Peter Gabriel's - Passion Sources (material he used as a reference for Passion Soundtrack).

Battlestar Galatacia Sountracks (Really anything from Bear McCreary)

Dead Can Dance - (Lisa Gerrard is half of this group)

Nasarat Fatah Ali Kahn (He was a Pakistani Qawwali singer, one of the influences Peter Gabriel used for the Passion Soundtrack, RIP).

Afro-Celt Soundsystem (melding of north african rhythms and celtic music).

Those are a few from me...

I know this thread is a little old, but another album just suggested itself (via my playlist):

The Jonah Hex EP by Mastodon. Excellent, moody, instrumental, and a little chunky (without being in-your-face). It's really hot, dusty stuff - just like Dark Sun.

I have no clue what Jonah Hex is all about, but Mastodon are amazing :)

It's a song about gladiators by a band called Dragonlord.

How much more darksun can you get?
