For me it depends not only on the group, but also the game and the character.
I'm more likely to play around in first person if other people in the group are, and also if something clicks in me with the character. I'm also more likely to slip into first person the more familiar I am with the game and the less I'm stumbling over rules or trying to remember mechanics.
