In the end I went w/Human Barb1/Sorc1/fight4/D.D.2

He uses a glaive, so I wanted natural (bite) attacks for adjacent targets. And since he's a TH PAttacker, being able to use wands of shield helped his AC alot. True strike and swift Exp. Retreat as spells are also good. And I love feats, so fighter.

The main reason though, was so he could enlarge himself for super reach. If he had the dragon type, he'd be stuck at medium size.

For the record, as was recently pointed out for my game...

Wizards has a breakdown of templates as class levels, so instead of a +3, you actually have 3 class levels. It's basically a 3-level, nonmagic-dependent version of the Dragon Disciple.

The article also had how to do that with wererats, which, like they say, low CR, and something there's a good chance a player might not WANT cured.

This is fully incorrect, by the by, the 3 level "class" doesnt grant bab, hit dice, or anything, just lets you add the half-dragon template level by level instead of all at once.

Yes, but being able to defray parts of the level cost is very useful. You can grab a few class levels at the start, then slowly work the Half Dragon levels in. Not having to be 3 levels down at lower levels is a significant advantage.

That is true, but the original statement said it was a class with bab and hit dice, which it is not.

But it must be noted that, as with all "racial classes", once you start it, you can't take levels in anything else until you finish it.

Well, he'll still lose that ability when he becomes a 10th level DD.

Would he not then be type Dragon (Augmented Humanoid) and therefore still a valid target of enlarge person?

By that logic, a human half-celestial [type Outsider (Augmented Humanoid)] could be enlarged, but her son, an aasimar [type Outsider (native)], couldn't. :uhoh:

[A human with the half-dragon template but not the DD PrC would still be a Dragon (Augmented Humanoid).]

Not so with the Draconic Racial class in Races of the Dragon. It's a 4 level class (the first one goes with your first class level or racial HD) and after taking level 2 the character has the Draconic template and can stop. At a later point the character can finish the last 2 levels to "upgrade" the Draconic template to the Half-dragon template. The first 2 levels must be taken together and the last 2 levels have to taken together, but other classes can be taken in between.
