Illian will boldly stand in front of Justin, clacking his longsword against his shield goading the beast on. You all feel as if your sword-arm swings a little stronger as Illian concentrates for but a moment.

"Oh dear. . ."

Justin's sword wavers uncertainly in his hands as he faces the beast charging towards them.

[sblock=ooc]If the creature is next to him on his round, he'll take a stab at it.
Attack +1, 1d6+1
And then 5' step away.

Otherwise, he'll back away into the corridor, and clear space for more effectual combatants to close in.[/sblock]

Round 1

Illian is first to react to the presence of the great cat, and he darts to the front of the group, clashing his longsword against his shield, ready for the mountain lion's attack. The animal does not disappoint, as it crouches low to the ground, then bounds forward with surprising speed. The cat leaps at Illian, who stands ready with a quick sword slash that draws blood from the lion's shoulder and elicits a bloodcurdling yowl of rage and pain. Illian turns the cat's jaws aside with his shield, but the pouncing cat is able to bring one claw up to rake savagely at the elf's groin.

Robert begins to sing a song that inspires his fellows with a call to arms. He considers the use of his sling, but realizes that he doesn't have a clear shot due to the angle of the corridor where the struggle is taking place. Yet, Clip is up to the challenge! Feeling braver by the moment, the fighter moves forward and brings his greatsword down in one decisive blow. With its flank exposed from leaping at Illian, the mountain lion's side gets slashed open all the way to the ribcage. With a pitiful mewling sound the animal collapses, dying.

Combat Ends
Illian 8/12 hp

[sblock=Combat Summary]Illian moved and readied an attack against the approach of the lion.

The mountain lion charged at Illian and performed a pounce. Illian's readied attack hit the lion for 10 damage. The cat attacked with a bite (missed) and two rake attacks (one hit for 4 damage).

Robert sang his spellnote to inspire courage (move action) but could not attack with his sling, because he had no line of sight to the lion.

Clip took a 5' step, and attacked with his greatsword, hitting (only because the lion had an AC penalty due to charging!) for 10 damage, and ending the fight.[/sblock]

Illian clutches his groin at the scratch, but quickly regains his composure before turning to the others.

"It looks like Robert was right. Those things hit hard" the elf says.

"Goodness! That's the first lion I've seen in the flesh. They do live up to the descriptions in the stories. Such giant beasts!"

Just then, the limit on Dorian's magical illumination runs out. The silvery luminescence winks out without warning, leaving the party in total darkness.

Asmodeus's beard!! It's dark down here. Clip rifles through his pack and produces a sunrod, lighting the place back up.
Good thing that didn't happen when we were fightin' that lion. Shall we get movin'?
