"I'll be fine, only a scratch" Illian replies to the original question.

"Yes, let's keep moving" the wild elf will agree, allowing someone else to take the lead.

Justin blanches slightly at the sight of Illian's blood, thinking briefly about what could have happened to him had he still been standing at the front when the creature attacked.

"You. . . might want to wrap that up or something. Wouldn't want the wound to fester. It's pretty nasty down here."

He looks around the room again.

"Back to the original plan? Or shall we check the door? Doors are me, I suppose."

[sblock=ooc]If the decision is to check the door, Justin will search for traps and pick any locks, if needed.

Search +6 = 14.
Open Locks +9 = 25.[/sblock]

I'm going to move you guys forward now, under the assumption that you're proceeding down the corridor as originally planned before the lion attacked.

Clip's sunrod provides a nice golden glow that banishes the sudden, unwelcome darkness. Illian seems willing to press on despite his injury, and so the party continues down the southwest passageway. The corridor proceeds for about 60 feet, and then open up onto an odd-shaped nexus of corridors. The sudden realization dawns that the group has stumbled, literally, into the lion's den. Another fierce feline predator, somewhat larger than the first, snarls at the party, and they can see that she protects a mewling litter of cubs! She reacts to the sudden intrusion by leaping to attack!

Boingy! Boingy!
Bellus Mughandle

"By my mother's beard! What strange force compels normal animals to lair in this lightless place?"

Fearing that the beast may be upon him too quickly for his longspear to be of use, Bellus lets that weapon fall from his hands and draws his light mace, making ready to bludgeon the cat if possible.

[sblock=OOC]
Take up to a 5-foot step if necessary to get adjacent to the animal before attacking.
Bellus' Crappy Attack: 1d20+1=5, 1d6+1=3. He'd be lucky to hit air with that roll.

Dorian is just not as into killing hungry animals it seems. Perhaps he had been expecting more intelligent opponents or something a little easier to hate, but as he moved slowly around the lion he had a hard time finding an opening with his mace.

[sblock=ooc]Move to attack, preferrably a flank.
atk, dmg (1d20+1=6, 1d8+1=4)

Justin will hold his ground. Maybe the lioness only wants to protect her cubs. If they don't make any sudden movements, she might not attack. But he holds his sword tightly in his hand, like a life line.

[sblock=ooc]Stand where he is.
Ready an action to attack if the lioness moves next to him.

Attack: 14
Damage: 3[/sblock]

Can't seem to get Maptool to work right now, guys, so let's roll AD&D style for the moment. Mapless!

While Justin hangs back and watches, the lioness gives an angry, protective growl and launches herself savagely into Clip, pouncing with fangs and claws tearing into the fighter's flesh. The lioness' jaws close over the young man's shoulder, sinking in deeply, while one claw rips into his stomach. It's all the warrior can do to stay on his feet under this ferocious assault.

Bellus approaches, but swings his mace feebly, coming nowhere close to the great cat. Clip has no better luck, as he is unable to get a good swing with his sword, for all his wounds. Illian circles around and does better, stabbing into the cat's flank with his longsword. Robert begins to sing, but he fumbles too badly with his sling to even get off a shot. Dorian circles around the other way and tries to bash the cat with his mace, but he does no better than Bellus. The cat is too quick for him.

[sblock=Combat Mechanics]
Justin stays in place, readies an attack
Mountain Lion charges Clip, hitting with bite and one paw rake for total of 12 damage.
Bellus moves and attacks, but misses.
Clip attacks lion with his sword, but misses
Illian moves and attacks, hitting for 7 damage.
Robert sings his spellnote for courage, misses with sling attack.
Dorian moves and attacks lion with mace, misses.
