Well, I don't own the book, so I'm only going by memory from reading it at my FLGS. Others here can probably elaborate.

So, does that mean that the artist ignored the art reference, or someone in the chain "superceded" it to "stick it to the man"?

Wasn't there a thread on this somewhere else on these boards? I seem to recall there being some amount of hatred involved, and some revenge on the part of someone who was leaving the company. I'll have to search for that.

I never heard any actual theories on why it was in there (though I could easily have missed it). I'm sure I've posted some hate posts on it at some point.
