So why not just give it a little bump and create something with it's own niche, instead of making a +2/+1 vehicle like the other races. Give it a free skill or tool proficiency, or a once a day power.

Sample
Determination: Add d4 to one attack role, skill check, or saving throw that you failed. Once you use this you may not use it again until after a long rest.

I thought about giving more inspiration (as a way of encouraging that). Its a similar idea.

So, again, not using Tasha's. So the Half-elf would probably still dominate for at least bard, warlock and sorcerer. Though even here, human is not that far off. Maybe thats OK?
Right, this human is more versatile. Getting to put that plus 2 wherever you want is very valuable, which balances the half-elf's extra skill, darkvision, conditional saving throw advantage, and extra language. The half-elf is only "better" in Charisma primary classes.

Horwath

Legend
+2 to one ability, +1 to two abilities or +2 to two abilities or +1 to 4 abilities,
+2 skill proficiencies
+2 tool or weapon proficiencies
common +2 languages

this is comparing to Tasha's version of half-elves, more or less is Darkvision and fey ancestry for extra 2 tools or languages and more versatile ability boosts.

Eberron does an excellent job creating alternate humans using their Dragonmark templates. Very impressive to say the least as it opens the door for creative fantasy world building. When I was reading it the new Pathfinder space version was out and I was imagining "magic powers" as cybernetics or genetic enhancements. Like I said, it really opens the door for creativity.

Human alternate:

+1 to proficiency bonus.

Makes them a specialist at whatever they do instead of a generalist.

That also resembles the human of old which can surpass any demi-human in class levels.

Edit:
Actually, that should be the standard human.

Only if you roll stats IMO. If you use point buy or standard array the points are fungible and the only way the +2 charisma doesn't help is if you want to dump Charisma.

If you are not dumping Charisma that it is two points you would have put in Charisma anyway that you can now put elsewhere. Move that +2 to another stat and it is two less you spend on that stat and two more you will spend on Charisma, so it really makes very little difference unless Charisma is a stat you are going to dump to 8 ... and there are not many builds that are going to do that. Strength, Intelligence and Dexterity, in that order, are more common as dump stats. The only class this is really better for IMO is an unarmored Barbarian, because they do want to max 3 stats and will commonly dump two stats to do it.

Now if you are rolling stats you would be right it is huge to put it where you want.
