I which I could. I thout they were going to D20ize the existing city guides , but that was a year ago that's all I know.

We hope they stick with the CityBook name.... since
Dark Quest Games uses City Guide for our product names.

What I gather...

In emails I've gotten from Rick Loomis over at Flying Buffalo, the re-issue of the CityBooks will essentially just be a re-print with a d20 appendix/supplement. He said that the out of print books were tentatively scheduled for a fall reprint. He specifically mentioned that "Citybook VI: Uptown" - the only one of the group that I don't have - was on that timetable.

There's more info in their latest catalog, but I don't have it in front of me at the moment. You can read what little information they have on their website here:
http://www.flyingbuffalo.com/d20.htm

Contacting Rick Loomis usually gets results.

Meantime, I'll keep my eye out for starwolf's interpretations. He's been quite good at capturing the flavor of the Citybooks' original "generic" NPCs. Please do keep it up!

Hey Joe,
Any specific characters you would like to see an interpretation of?

Any except (sadly enough) those form CB6:Uptown...as I've found that particular tome has gone astray in the last few months.

I can't speak for Joe, but I'll throw out a few (un)likely candidates for you to consider. IMO, these are a few of the more challenging (and entertaining) NPCs to interpret from the various books. You've already done a few from Citybook I, so I'll forgo that one, but here are a couple from each of the others:

From Citybook II: Ferd the Bouncer and Makea Essani

From Citybook III: Two-Stictch Dickens and the Steel Man

From Citybook IV: The Master and Jonagher Krystalglare

From Citybook V: The Old Man and Adegar Hilkin (I won't even get into Blu)

From Citybook VI: Alas, I don't own it (yet)

From Citybook VII: Gav, the Streetcleaner and Blind Geoffrey Theobold

I could go on...

Ok, Jon.

Here's one for ya!

Ferd the Bouncer, male ("like a") troll Ftr4/Bbn1: CR 11; Size M (7 ft., 2 in. tall); HD 6d8+48 + 4d10+32 + 1d12+8; hp 143; Init +3 (+3 Dex); Spd 40 ft.; AC 20 (+3 Dex, +7 Natural); Attack +19/+14/+9 (+5 Base, +8 Str, +6 Racial) melee, or +14/+9/+4 (+5 Base, +3 Dex, +6 Racial) ranged; SV Fort +19 (+6 Base, +8 Con, +5 Racial), Ref +6 (+1 Base, +3 Dex, +2 Racial), Will +4 (+1 Base, -1 Wis, +2 Iron Will, +2 Racial); AL NG; Str 27 (+8), Dex 16 (+3), Con 27 (+8), Int 7 (-2), Wis 9 (-1), Cha 8 (-1).

Skill points: Ftr 7, Bbn 2
Skills and feats: Climb +8 (+8 Str), Hide +3 (+3 Dex), Intimidate +1 (+2 Rank, -1 Cha), Jump +8 (+8 Str), Listen +13 ( +7 Rank, -1 Wis, +5 Racial, +2 Alertness), Move silently +3 (+3 Dex), Ride +3 (+3 Dex), Spot +6 (-1 Wis, +5 Racial, +2 Alertness), Swim +8 (+8 Str); [Alertness],[Iron will], Improved Unarmed Strike, Combat Reflexes, Weapon Focus (Grapple),Close-Quarters Fighting, Throw Anything.

SQ: Regeneration 5,Scent,Darkvision 90’
SA: Rend 2d6+12
Note: Unlike a true troll Ferd is only Size M and therefor does not have Reach

Just tell him Joe sent ya!

Very Cool!

Nice interpretation.

He'll be coming soon to a campaign near you.

Quite a shock to those trouble-making PCs used to kicking the tar out of most every bouncer who gets in their path. >:)

I think the City-Books are great, because they leave everything open to the DM to fill in. I don't want stat-blocks for NPC's; I want personalities, motivations, personal histories, allies, feuds, and the like. I own three of the books and plan on ordering the rest through my local gamestore. Stat-blocks, IMHO, take up pages that could be used for fleshing out the setting. I, as DM, can supply any stat-block I need if I have the right setting.

I agree.

That doesn't mean that I'm not very grateful to starwolf for generating his interpretations of some of The City's denizens. I'm much more likely to call the next tavern that the PCs head into "The Diamond Spider Tavern" when I have both the Citybook's description of the establishment and NPCs as well as starwolf's stat blocks of the tavern staff.

It saves me time and it's also very enlightening to see another DM's take on these generic NPCs. Personally, I hope he continues.
