Could they sue for damages? What would they present as the damage to them? Perhaps that is a scary enough bluff to get the job done. But am I ignorant of something of more substance?


Their damages are every penny you make with the product under the OGL as you violated the terms of the agreement under the GSL, plus every penny they spend on lawyers retrieving that money from you.

But as Clark pointed out WotC may not want to sue. By claiming damages they need to show damages. To show damages all of WotC's financials would have to be open to discovery.

LOL, WotC's financials are alreayd public information. Hasbro is a publicly traded company!

My assumption for years now has been that if they wanted to kill the OGL, that they would do something just like this. They couldn't kill the OGL for 4E, but they might by the time 5E comes around.

The OGL will still be alive, though. It and the SRD will always be open.

Hasbro's overall financials are open as it is a publicly traded company. The WotC and the D&D specific financials are not open. It would be nice to see how much WotC is making on its individual products but without a lawsuit there is no chance of that happening.
