Okay, that's just cool. I could see a race of halflings living in that. It gives them their own flair, and kind of looks like the old hobbit-holes.

As for other halflings...hobbit holes!

I really like the rivers/swamps concept. I've been trying to think of how to integrate trade into my homebrew, and what race would call the swamps & moors home. This inspired me to re-add halflings back in as travelling merchants, with a Louisiana bayou feel. Throw in a little prejudice & voodoo/gypsy fictional inspiration ("Don't pass a bad coin to that halfling. I hear they can curse people who cheat them!") and you've got a nice flavor IMHO.
