Nope, not at all. Its not mass combat, but instead focussed on the PCs in a warlike situation.

There are NO mass combat rules in the book.

EDIT: Though, thinking about it, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Marshal reprinted...

Oh, the Marshal would be nice to include.

I'm actually looking forward to this. I've always found it hard to run a game where the PCs are in a war, but in a war.

Hanging in there. Better than the alternative.
They talk about it a little in the WotC monthly previews -- think of the party as a specialist group going on missions.

Hi ya-

Not to be offensive, but what ever happened to people using their imagination? Must every detail be spelled out for people? Your characters wanna go to war? Then involk fear DC's vs large armies charging them, you want military missions? Escort a caravan through suspected insurgent turf. Set-up delayed blast fireballs on the road side vs the PC's, have suicide cultists armed with disintergration elixers charge the players as they patrol the streets of a resently captured city or town.

Well, the same argument applies to the terrain books -- Sandstorm, Frostburn, etc. The book is for ideas, though. That's what most supplemental books are ueful for -- ideas. That's why the coolest part of the Draconomicon is the beginning chapters -- the color.

And if you're happy with that, more power to you.

Some people want hard rules. Some people just want suggestions or advice. Some people feel they can do a good job on their own, but want to see if they can do it even better with additional information.

I can't imagine why you're bothered by the fact that some people want this book.

It is amazing that people need any RPG books or message boards at all......

I've got three kids, a wife, and other RL concerns. I'd rather farm out some of the details and synthesize them into an interesting whole. Spending all of my time on the minutiae is no longer fun, healthy, or anywhere near my top priority.
