History Buffs: What if?

Venice kept the same democratic forms for roughly 800 years.

Even by the reduced cut off points of a 'true' founding and western fall Rome still beats 800 by a long shot. The period from the Gallic invasion to the Gothic sacking is still longer than 800 years.

Monarchical France kept an unbroken government tradition for far longer than 800 years. Despite some dynastic shifting.

If you go from 1066 to now Britain has beaten 800, if fairly recently. Even the war of the Roses ends with a claimant from the line of William.

The Papacy has been around for near 2000 years now, even if there was a restoration or two.

The Byzantine Empire from Constantine to the Fourth Crusade beats 800.

The Stuarts reigned over Scotland for an awfully long time. Approaching 800 if not surpasing it, and though there is a nasty English interruption that is still a single dynasty.

There are plenty of civic institutions with very long and still viable life spans.
